What's the best way to go about this?

The only thing I know to do is convert the AC3 to WAV, and then the WAV to WMA.

Windows Media Encoder takes neither AC3 nor Avisynth files.

Using ac3filter with WME9 app / wmcmd.vbs / WMEA for your wma encoding :)

you can use automkv!

on input select your ac3, as container select wmv as profile select wmv7/8 for wma standard and wvc1 pro wma pro, adjust the bitrate and click start!

on my pc ac3 to wma 5.1 isn't fuctional...

try with this string

cscript.exe WMCmd.vbs -input sound_wma.avs -output audio51.wma -audioonly -a_codec WMAPRO -a_mode 0 -a_setting 192_48_6_16

and sound_wma.avs is like this

directshowsource("audio.ac3")
