I am having a problem here and i thought i should seek professional help. My problem is, i recieved DVD, a collection of TOM & JERRY Episodes, nearly all the episodes are there in a one dvd which is heavily compressed but quality is still ok for a GEM like this. All the classic episodes are there, there is a big problem. This DVD is encoded using 16:9 aspect and it should be in 4:3, As far as i see, it is 16:9 X 2, Some weird resolution, only way to correct it was, Ripped each cartoon seperately, then encode using AUTOGK with forced 4:3, and then using MpegModifier, Change the parameters to 4:3 again. Then Mplayer plays it nicely. Guys isn't there another easy way? Even a commercial software would be fine if you can recommend me one to do this job, Rip the file then straight away encode it to Mpeg4 in good 4:3 aspect without so many hassle because there is a ton of cartoons to go, Please let me know so i can download it or purchase it, Thanks in millions for reading my problem. :thanks:

The DAR (4:3 or 16:9) is just a flag present in the header of the stream, so there is no need to re-encode anything. You can change that with Restream for example. I don't know whether Restream accepts VOBs directly, if not, you need to demux the video before changing this flag.

thanks a lot for help friend, alright i will download restream and see if i can fix this problem. If i can fix it in VOB Format, then all my problems are solved, i can straightaway burn all those episodes to a dvd and thats it. :) I will post my results once i try it out, thanks again,:thanks:

As setarip_old hinted:

"It may be a simple adjustment to make with IFOEdit (or, possibly, PGCEdit, or VOBBlanker)..."

That might be a better approach.

Btw, we don't help with material you don't own (rule 6). So, if those dvds are not yours, we won't help you any further ...

Hi dreamvampire! :)

I record episode series from TV-cabel and sometimes aspect ratio flag is wrong.
I always use this little application for patching.
It accepts .vob files so no need to demux.
Needs no installation, it's very easy to use and works great, you should give it a try.

It seems more likely to me that the streams are correctly encoded, otherwise they would not display properly on HD televisions. There are many many applications which do not correctly interpret mpeg-2 DAR. The Display Aspect Ratio is just that - the aspect ratio of the display. The display size is the same as the encoded picture size UNLESS a Sequence_Display_Extension header is present in the stream to alter the display size. For example the normal way to encode an NTSC Pan/Scan video, which in its full resolution is 16:9, is picture size of 720x480, display size of 540x480, DAR of 4:3. This is because the DAR of the display size (the Pan/Scan "window") is 4:3

Thanks a billion everyone, sorry for my silence, i had small motorcycle accident and whoosh..... sorry about that, well back to my video encoding life heheh :) thanks a lost for that little utility vareki, i will try it out today to fix my problem, but i think i need to find a nice utility to CROP the video files to solve my problem, the person who encoded these files has added huge black borders on top, any one has an idea? any good tiny winy and fast cropping tool which i can remove those two black boarders?

You'll definitely have to re-encode... perhaps you'ld like to try Dr DivX (http://souls-online.net/delacroixp/DrDivX/DrDivX_2_0_0_OSS_final.exe)... you'll also need the DivX 6.4 Installer (http://souls-online.net/delacroixp/DrDivX/DivXInstaller_6.4.exe) .

Thanks for your reply friend, but i don't think there is limit for any person to post per day in doom9 as far as i know, if there is, i hope someone will educate me about it, there is one thing i believe in, if i don't have any question or any problem, why load this good forum with tons of junks and stuff?, so i rather post 2 posts per year, the important stuff. Ciao!:helpful:

Quite right, nobody needs 'junk and stuff'... but you seam like a good man with much to offer... so you're one of those friends we're happier to see when you arrive rather than pleased to see you leave...
