yes i did read it
that's why i posted this.
mentioning some prgrms in news post is not same as having a poll where users can vote for their fav prgmr.

well... the idea won't work for the following reason: you can only have a best soft vote among forum members, not the general readership of my page since it requires forum access to vote and I don't want 25'000 non-used forum accounts just for a poll. Furthermore no matter what selection of candidates I would come up there always would be some opposition.

well.. I changed my mind. here's a proposed list of progs:
dvd decrypter
gordian knot
dvd2svcd
besweet
ifoedit
nandub
vobsub
fair use
xmpeg
powerdivx
zoomplayer
divx4
azid
lame
it's mostly a list of softwares that came out in 2001 with a few exceptions.. what do you think?

Tuff one...
I would say FairUse... It did the same like DVD2MPG Squeezer in 1999 (or was it 2000?)... It made things sooo easy :) .

nandub definitely is number 1.
nando and friends did so much basic research, they brought up so many things and ideas that are common knowledge now.
nandub is packed with new technology, it truly changed divx-encoding as we knew it. and not to forget all the audio-stuff in there.
nandub is the basic tool that you need all the time, even if you rip and encode with fair-use.
my 2 euro-cents. :p
wef.
p.s.: very sad that fu2k "stopped" developing fair use. i'm sure it would be the best tool of 2002, if only he would finish it.

Instead of having a poll, why don't you just add a small logo and allow authors to use them:
Doom9's Best soft or Great Soft approved by Doom9... something like that...
It will allow user to know which soft are good, must-try, etc
BTW coffercufs'list seem to be ok for me

actually.. I'd like to have a poll.. I was just posting some suggestions for what options I'd like to give in the poll.
as for the logo.. good idea.. but who creates such a logo? and it would kind of require that it includes the official doom9 logo which still does not exist. I think I'll have to do it myself.. but atm I'm really busy and I'm absolutely not a designer so it will take me a while to come up with something

hmmm, at least if you start a poll, you should setup some categories, like encoder, tools, and players or else others software won't have any chances against GKnot and Nandub. I don't want to see 100% of vote for Nandub !
About the logo, describe me what you want and I'll try to design a good one, at least I need to know what you want;

you can't have categories in polls.. and I don't want 20 winning softs to be honest. Okay.. that means powerdivx is probably not going to win... but I'd not vote for it either to be honest.. I'll stick to WMP.. plays all I need just fine.
as for the logo.. I don't know that really myself or I would have made one a long time ago
