IS there a way to control resolution? I have tried encoding 3 maybe four times... And im trying to see if i can come close to scene req. But it seems Auto GK jeeps makeing the resolution too small.. I heard the suggested was 512 by XXX.
here is tha last one.. its still in process hasdnt completed yet.. but wht such a smal resolution.. And why is this thing doing 23.97FPS.. i want 29FPS... pffft... The video resolution is 448x336... Somewone pls help me.. I read FAQ.. I read the Tutorials... I have asked ppl i know and they have refered me to doom and some other forum place.. I have begged ppl who encode, and they said they leave everythin on auto.. and it comes out right.. So anyone.. someone.. HELP!!!
*****BELOW I HAVE AN IMAGE OF SETTINGS and LOG FROM AUTOGK to better help me in whatever stoppidity im doing

You need to increase the target file size. If you have to have 700MB chunks to put it on a CD, then go to 1400. AutoGK will split it into two pieces for you. You'd have plenty of space to keep the original audio, too.

If file size is not a consideration, I'd set "custom size" to about 1200MB for a movie of this length and compressibility. That will give you a single large file.

And, trust me, you do want the 23.97FPS. This will restore the movie's original framerate. Google "IVTC" if you want more info about that.

Good luck.

Movie Length: ³
³ - PAL (25 fps) = MINIMUM runtime is 100 minutes/CD. ³
³ - FILM (23.976 fps) = MINIMUM runtime is 105 minutes/CD. ³
³ - NTSC (29.97 fps) = MINIMUM runtime is 87 minutes/CD. ³Framerate: ³
³ - MUST be as close to original source framerate as possible.

This is from a dvd.. NTSC.. FPS is 29.97... i checked.. So i need to try to stay at 29.97.... 23.976 is a big drop.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Many different issues. One by one if you agree.

1/ IS there a way to control resolution? I have tried encoding 3 maybe four times... And im trying to see if i can come close to scene req. But it seems Auto GK jeeps makeing the resolution too small.. I heard the suggested was 512 by XXX.
You already found the manual width control but others params are counteracting your settings ... try sticking to the basics and avoid (until familiar with the process) changing manually params, see 1-1 below

2/ its still in process hasdnt completed yet.. but wht such a smal resolution.. And why is this thing doing 23.97FPS.. i want 29FPS... pffft... same advice as above stay on auto until you can master the different options, see 2-2 below

3/ The video resolution is 448x336... Somewone pls help me.. I read FAQ.. I read the Tutorials... I have asked ppl i know and they have refered me to doom and some other forum place.. I have begged ppl who encode, and they said they leave everythin on auto.. and it comes out right.. see 3-3 below

Ok let's begin at the beginning.

AutoGordianKnot (AutoGK) contains Auto; if too "auto" for you you may want to try another Avi/Xvid encoder; if you give AGK a chance you can get pretty good results.

1-1/ If your minimum required quality is 512 width you need to rethink your params, either:
a) More target size -> try 1/4 of DVD or 2Cd size, let all on auto and you should get 512 width or more, good audio and video quality
b) Absolutely 1Cd or a little more ( 1/5 of DVD) -> you can gain a littlesize/space/quality/width by
- downsizing the audio to Mp3 128 VBR or lower; or 112 CBR or lower
- downgrading the credits quality (already done :( )
- let auto-width checked(and not use the sharp matrix option) to use the low bitrate matrix and gain between 2 to 4 width-sizes (448 to 480/512)

2-2/ As stated above, this is not the way AutoGK works; give it a chance...

3-3/ Thanks for providing the log it makes your issues more understandable. As already answered, giving more and more targetsize until satisfied is the way to go. If you compromize ... well you compromize ;)
Also if your source is the the Prince musical DVD there are chances that (as other musical DVD) it may not be very compressible, so you need more target size :(
Let us know how your trials go if more hints needed.

Hehe, where to begin:

And im trying to see if i can come close to scene req.

First, you're encoding the 4:3 version of Purple Rain when there's a 16:9 widescreen version available. There's a NUKE right there.

Second, you want to encode for 29.97fps where 23.976fps is the correct framerate. There's another NUKE.

Third, for movies that don't compress well, you're allowed to go to 2 CDs when the length is over 105 minutes. If I'm not mistaken, it's 111 minutes long, doesn't compress well, and should definitely be for 2 CDs.

i want 29FPS... pffft...

What's the pffft for? Your own ignorance, maybe? You don't want 29.97fps. You just think you do. It's a good thing you're using AutoGK so you can't screw it up.

im sorry... i often use pffft nowadays and its a bad habbit.. I use it instead of saying things like.. shit, dam and any other vulgar word because of rules on forums. I dont know the rules, but to be safe, i dont curse. So sorry if i sound ignorant.
The ideas yall had are understandable, i will try em tomorro.. as it takes 2 hrs to encode on my PC..
A new project came into my hands today and i have tofix it.. ill continue prince another day.
Thanks all for ya help.
