I have been using AutoGK with Xvid for a number of years now. I have noticed in a few places that are rating ASP codecs that the new 6.0 version of DivX is rated very high against H264 and XviD.

What are people's experience with DivX and AutoGK? A good combination?

I use AGK and DivX 6 (at the 'insane' preset of 9/10). Since my computer is quite fast, AGK encodes with good speed at a great quality.
More, I use an old DVD/DivX reades which cannot read XviD, so using that combinations doesn't force me to change the FOURCC of the XVID file into DIVX.

Hi
aldaco12 how are you configuring the codec with agk ?
1. I thought the automated side of agk took these decisions out of your hands
2. I was under the impression that it was on balanced as default.

DivX version
Now I use DivX v6.5, but also when I used v6.2 the thing were more or less identical. The great changes happen when the first number changes (es. DivX 5.x to DivX 6.x), not when .x changes.
My v6.2 automatically upgraded at v6.5 when it became available.
DivX Configuration
I set the DivX encoding choosing, in VirtualDub, Video___Compression ---> DivX ---> Configure.
I don't know how to set this directly from DivX engine.
Yes, DivX is balanced by default, but my computer is rather new and I prefered to exceed in quality than saving time only (my computer works while I sleep). My only 'safe' assumption was to avoid choosing 'insane 10/10', which seems to me too 'extreme'.

Thanks very much for the tips. I will play with this a little tomorrow.
I also read that there is little, if no difference between extreme and insane.
:thanks: :) :) :)

divx/xvid are video codecs, so no it doesnt affect the sound.

sam240: Please take a look at Doom9's codec comparisons. You'll find them on Doom9's main website: www.doom9.org, in "The Basics" section.

I find Xvid looks better in dark movies, while I prefer Divx for the rest

It is a double-blind MOS test.
