From what I understand, the European version of the PS3 is slightly different to the US/Japanese version.
Given this being the case, if anyone here has got one have you tried playing the following A/V format combinations: -
MPEG-4 ASP video with MP3 audio within AVI
MPEG-4 ASP video with AC3 audio within AVI
MPEG-4 ASP video with AAC audio within AVI
MPEG-4 AVC video with MP3 audio within AVI
MPEG-4 AVC video with AC3 audio within AVI
MPEG-4 AVC video with AAC audio within AVI
MPEG-4 ASP video with MP3 audio within MP4
MPEG-4 ASP video with AAC audio within MP4
MPEG-4 AVC video with MP3 audio within MP4
MPEG-4 AVC video with AAC audio within MP4
Cheers

Some PS3 in Thailand sold with this support "MPEG-4 AVC video with AAC audio within MP4". But only play AAC until 256kbps at 441khz downsample.

My understanding is that the PS3 will only support mpeg 4 SP, not ASP. Can you confirm and/or send me a sample of an ASP clip that will play in your PS3?

Sorry,
Wrong pickup quote yesterday, I meant MPEG4AVC.

I don't know about U.S or japanese PS3 but I know for sure that the european version can't read the avi format :(
It definitely supports MPEG-4 AVC video with AAC audio within MP4 but subtitles, chapters and tags in mp4 file are ignored. People say that some user created 1080p AVC will show a blank screen on the PS3 but the audio will work.
MPEG2+AC3 from a DVD remuxed into an mpg file will work also.
Xvid+AAC in mp4 has never worked for me. I don't have any SP contect.
The browser supports flash well enough.
BTW, here are some MeGUI profiles created by someone from AVS Forum that work for the PS3.

I don't have one (thank God, I'm happy with the Wii ;)) but I was led to believe it only supported H.264 main profile + AAC in MP4. Whether there are any strage restrictions or requirements like the botched up support in the PSP is anyones guess (custom atoms?)

It takes AVC/AAC output straight from MeGUI.

Codec support however, will increase with future firmware updates, just like the PSP.
