Displaylink and Samsung had announced 940UX, the first LCD display in the world with Displaylink chipset. This chipset enable PC users to connect PC to LCD without any video card or video cable.
Unfortunately Displaylink use Virtual Graphic Card (VGC) on MS Windows. The linux driver will be available later this year.

One possible application of Displaylink: Linux Multi Seat.
Using this X Windows capability, a powerful PC server can be connected to multiple users. Linux multi seat: multiple users running different applications at the same time at different display, keyboard and mouse.

Is this ide possible?

Sure it's possible. If they have anything similar to the MSU or VNC codec in the backend, then 300 Mbps or so effective bandwidth is much more than enough to send 60fps for mid-resolution desktop use, maybe even several. For movies and games, it might struggle, but it's doubtful it has any 2d/3d accelleration so those are probably right out anyway, especially being an office system.

But I wonder what the market for this would even be, compared to all of the well-trenched thin-client systems available today?

Yes,
Useless technology, mostly many motherboard today already have prebuilt VGA and Soundcard in their chipset. And price quite interesting also.
