I use my Phillips DVP5960 to watch foreign dramas with Fan Produced subtitles. I put these in .idx/.sub (VobSub) format to make sure they display correctly. I recently noticed that the subtitles seem to lag near the middle-end. I never really had noticed this before, as I thought it was a problem with the subtitles... but watching on my computer there is not a problem.
Is this a known issue with the Phillips 5960, or chipset it uses (Mediatek 1389)? Perhaps a firmware upgrade would help? I'm still running the original firmware.
There are still some testing I need to do. I typically will burn 6 episodes per DVD (Divx/Xvid). It seems like the player is just not keeping up with the .sub file, which can get to be pretty big.
Added: The file I'm watching is a 640x360 file encoded in Xvid, average bit-rate video 1305 kbps, and 192 kbps AC3 output. Pretty sure that makes a difference.
Anyone else have this experience?
