Hi!

1) How did you determine that the DivX codec is the culprit that has made your burner "disappear"?

2) Have you tried simply using the "Add new hardware" function to reinstall the burner?

i uninstalled each of the apps i had loaded after each uninstall one app at a time i would do a reboot, the burner wouldn't come back until i had uninstalled the divx for windows package. yes the add new hardware function dosent work says no drivers found for this hardware. i even uninstalled the dvd burner un hooked it from ide cable and tried again still nothing. i promise it is the divx install. its has to be taking a file of some sort.

Hmmm, it's a well-known fact that Windows Explorer can crash when you highlight an .avi file (especially if it's corrupted), but I've never seen that it can crash a hardware device...

I reccomend that you instal the codec anyway and then use a software to scan your registry. The problem must be there. I'll reccomend CM DiskCleaner, it's freeware...

Is this the official download of the latest release, or a bundle from another package? afaik they don't use any rootkits or starforce to protect the software, so I don't know what would cause such a spectacular mess. If you contact divx, they should be able to give you specific information on what it will and won't do in x64, and specific debugging steps that apply to the codec. Who knows, they might even provide a test build.
