Good program for converting AVI to DVD?

I was wondering, what is a good program to convert AVI files to DVD files so I can burn it and watch it on a standard DVD player?

What kind of material is it? Why don't you just backup the DVD that you made the AVIs from, instead of going the indirect route.

It's a .AVI file I downloaded online, and I was wondering what program to use to convert it onto a DVD.

I was previously using WinAVI Video Converter, but recently it's been giving me errors and spontaneously crashing on me in the middle of converting, so I'm looking for an alternative of sorts.
