View Full Version : How can I rip movies using DVDshrink with constant Framerates to convert to Divx

The meat: I've ripped a few of my movies onto my computer using DVDShrink3.2, and they all come out with different Framerates, which doesn't allow me to convert them into divX.

The apology: I'm completely new to this, I'm not that computer apt, but I'd love to have some good films to watch on my 30 gb laptop while I'm away traveling without taking the full dvds with me. I have been using DVDShrink, but it just doesn't get them small enough. I've read the FAQ, but I'm not quite computer saavy enough to quite understand it, I've just shot for the moon, and I feel I'm just about there, but I've come up short.

Perhaps there's another program I can use to get them down to the <1 gig point?

Hi!they all come out with different Framerates, which doesn't allow me to convert them into divX.If you make a separate DivX-compressed .AVI for each ripped DVD, framerate is not a problem...

That's what I could do, but I'd much rather make a full movie of them, linked

is it at all possible to change the frame rate? or set a setting on DVDShrink to keep frame rate constant?

I've ripped a few of my movies onto my computer using DVDShrink3.2I'd much rather make a full movie of themPlease clarify - each DVD that you've ripped to your hard drive IS a full movie. Why would you want to make an .AVI combining different movies? Please explain, what would you gain by that?

To answer one of your questions, no , you can't set a specific framerate in DVD Shrink, because the framerate varies based on both the specific movie and the amount of compression...

I've got the same problem but I have been using A0A DVD Ripper...or something like that. Most of the time, if I'm converting a DVD to XVID format it comes out fine but sometimes when I do this the audio is thrown off a bit. The deeper I go into the movie the more the audio is off and I know it is because of the frame rate. And yes, I know this program cannot fix this problem.

So, just like the above poster....what is the best thing I can do to fix this???

@nphektor

Hi!

Your problem is NOT the same as that of "Luco_D", since it has nothing to do with joining videos.

A solution for you may be as follows:

Load the file into VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, or NanDub.
Set BOTH "Video"(VirtualDub,
VirtualDubMod and NanDub) and "Audio"
(VirtualDub and NanDub - VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream
list") to "Direct Stream Copy".

A) If the difference between audio and video is constant
throughout the video:

From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Interleaving" (For
VirtualDubMOD, rightclick on the listed audiostream and then
select "Interleaving")

Under "Audio skew correction", set an appropriate number of
milliseconds (positive or negative) in the box labelled "Delay
audio track by"

Save with a new filename

B) If the difference increases as the movie plays:

From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Framerate" -
and select "Change so video and audio durations match"

Save with a new filename

Let us know of your success ;>}

Wow, sorry about the mix-up then. If that truly is a solution I can use then thanks a ton. I will definitely try that at some point soon and respond back.

Hey, listen...I really appreciate the help. Take care!

Errhmm,
Are you sure what you done? As I know you don't need DVD Shrink if want to rip to DivX, just use DVD43 for open their MacroVision Protection and rip the movie using DivX Converter. But some movie have too much copy protection, so you have to copy first to hardisk using RipIt4Me. After that then you can rip to DivX. But even that, some movie have unsynchronous sound but this not because framerate, but because some DVD structure it self, you will know if read in RipIt4Me homepage.

The meat: I've ripped a few of my movies onto my computer using DVDShrink3.2, and they all come out with different Framerates,

PAL DVDs output at 25fps and NTSC DVDs output at 29.97fps. So I'm not really sure what you're saying here as the statement doesn't make much sense.

If you want to compress them to a much smaller size, decrypt them to the hard drive using DVD Decrypter in IFO Mode (or RipIt4Me in Movie Mode for newer DVDs with newer copy protections), and then use AutoGK to convert them to AVI, either XviD or DivX.
