Hey!

I'm wondering if there is any knowledge around those sorts of cards when it comes to capturing etc, and how the cards do it.

Since sweden nowdays have terrestrial digital tv broadcast I'm thinkin about buying a WinTV NOVA-t. But i'm a little confused when it comes to the recording think. First, is the card REENCODING the mpeg2 data that comes from the digital broadcast or is it just straming it directly to the disk? Also, how is the sound saved, in AC3 or in wav ?

I realize that it can't be many that have these sorts of cards, especailliy when Digital TV Broadcast is such a new think. But if anyone could give me some help I would really appreciate it. Imagine the possibillites when we can capture the mpeg2 stream directly to the disc and then reencode to divx or similliar...no bad reciptions etc and no interference in the picture and/or sound!

Best regards, Olle

all i know is that the video data is directly saved to disk - no reencoding.
and im really interested in how the audio is saved, it should support 5/6 channels, but in which format ?

Hey!

I think the Audio CAN be up to 5.1 channels, I think I read somewhere that the WinTV Digital TV-cards have a AC3 decoder. BUt how they are saved is another story. Also, in sweden there are no transmissions with DD 5.1 sound. Everything is stereo so far, but surround sound is to come in the future...
