I guess i posted this in the wrong forum the other day because the questions are simple i'm sure but no one answered me. So i'm posting here in hopes someone will help. Heres the original post.......

Ok, i'm new to all of this so i have questions that will probably sound stupid, but there goes. I have ripped and burned a few DVDs with DVDdecrypter and DVDshrink. I've also tried RipItForMe so that i'll have a way around newer protection. But there are issues i've had and things i cannot understand. Remember that i'm confused at this point so i can't recall exactly what i did in some cases.

1)-using ripitforme i ended up with VOB files instead of an ISO. why is that? I usually choose read ISO in DVDE, but i didn't seem to have that option when using RIFM. Maybe i just missed it, but i coulda sworn it just did it's thing w/o giving me the chance in DVDE.

2)-is there a way to create a ISO from VOB files so that if this happens again i don't have to completely start over? (i won't be doing this often, so chances are i may forget something and end up with VOB files again the next time i try it)

3)-how can i make a DVD with nothing but the main movie? I see i can uncheck various languages, but i don't see an option to shrink the ISO as movie only.

4)-last time i ripped and burned a DVD, DVDS di not create a ISO of the correct size to fit on a single disc. It was set on automatic so i don't understand why that happened. I had to figure out the percentage to make it the correct size and re-shrink it. What did i do wrong to shrink the ISO and end up with a ISO bigger than the 4.6GB or whatever size that is that a DVD holds?

If i got no answers because you all think i posted w/o searching first, i did, plus i went thru the app menus add nausium. I just couldn't find the answers, at least not in a simple enough form to understand. I have zero experience with this stuff. Thanks in advance.

Question 2- Use ImgBurn; search the web, search the forum, you'll easily find its website and user friendly guide. Use this over some other possibilities especially when burning dual layer discs. (I think it's normal for Ripit4me to output in file mode (VOB's) but I haven't used it that much.) Click mode/build, but you will need the guide beyond that.

Question 3- Use DVD Shrink. Click Re-author button, double click Main movie.

Carefully look at the RipIt4Me options. You can rip to ISO.

Yeah, i found that after trying to do a test rip today. Seems odd tho......it just hands it over to DVDdecrypter right away, but isn't the whole purpose of ripitforme to rip encryption that DVDE cannot decode? If so, why does it go to DVDE so quickly as tho it's not doing anything. Or is it working with DVDE the whole time to decrypt it?

I guess the remaining questions i really need to know are how to select only the components i want on the disc (i know how to do languages, thats obvious), how to know when to use RIFM, (assuming i'm using it for the right reason...newer encryption) and why shrink didn't size the ISO to a single DVD when set to automatic?

What it does is feed DVDE with a custom file listing bad sectors and how to pass them up, instead of doing any ripping itself. It has a huge database of workarounds for bad discs. (If DVDE were updated to support new drm variations, these custom files wouldn't need to be made, but that obviously isn't legally possible anymore.)

Weird that shrink screwed up. Any messages in its logs?
