Nero Recode question

Can anyone tell me or (point me to) some information so I can finally end a long running argument I've been having with a few people. What EXACTLY are the specifications for the Nero codecs used for DVD:DVD selections in Recode and Vision. And what is the process used to go from the original to the new image/burn in technical terms. I've been arguing that it is capable of doing copies/compressions that other DVD copy/compress (IE DVD Rebuilder) software can do, equally IF YOU HAVE ALL THE SETTINGS CORRECTLY SET. If I am totally wrong please tell me that too.
