I'm trying to rip all my LOST DVDs (of season 1 and 2), to divx, using AutoGK.

Each DVD contains 4 chapters, and some extras.

I only want to rip the four main chapters. But i don't know what.

Problem is that when i tell AutoGK to rip (for example) VTS_01_0.IFO it asks me to select one of 3 PGC:

PGC 1. Length 0:42:13:21
PGC 2. Length 0:00:00:15
PGC 3. Length 0:42:15:06

I see this three files on the DVD:
21/09/2005 22:02 211.034.112 VTS_01_0.VOB
21/09/2005 22:03 1.073.502.208 VTS_01_1.VOB
21/09/2005 22:04 708.194.304 VTS_01_2.VOB

So each PGC corresponds to each? What are they?

DVD Shrink shows the Main Movie as:

Main Movie (normal mode):
Title 1,3 01:24:28 1068MB
Title 4,5 01:20:35 1056MB
Title 10 00:43:27 956MB
Title 11 00:42:42 1059MB

Main Movie (reauthor):
Title 1 00:42:13 1697 MB
Title 3 00:42:15 1698 MB
Title 4 00:40:17 1625 MB
Title 5 00:40:18 1625 MB
Title 10 00:43:27 1678 MB
Title 11 00:42:42 1720 MB

And here is the full first DVD content.

maybe some admin should move this to AutoGK forum?

download VobBlanker:
http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm
or PgcEdit:
http://download.videohelp.com/r0lZ/pgcedit/
you can use their preview function to see what's in each PGC

VTS_XX_0.VOB contains only menu videos.
VTS_XX_1.VOB and up contains movies, extras, prewiews, commercials, studio logos, warnings, etc.
these considered as single .VOB file splitted to 1GB chunks, so that they can be understood by older OS's like Windows 95.
XX is the number of VTS (video title set)
one vts can have multiple PGCs, most of the cases one PGC is one title, that is one episode of the series, one movie, one piece of bonus features, etc. VTS_XX_0.IFO describes the contents of the vob files of VTS XX. PGCs can overlap.
you can judge by the size, what it might be.
it seems in your case VTS 1, 2, 4 & 5 contains the four episodes, one each.
Title 1 & 3 (might be VTS 1 PGC 1 & 3) seems to be the same episode, title 3 is 2 seconds longer, that might be the studio logo, or a warning.
same applies to Title 4 & 5.
Title 10 & 11 seems to be two separate episodes.

as for your question select PGC 1 if you want the 2 second shorter version, and select PGC 3 if you want the 2 second longer version of the same episode. and do the same with VTS_02_0.IFO, VTS_04_0.IFO & VTS_05_0.IFO.

still, if you wanna make sure, check them in VobBlanker or PgcEdit.

you mean that VTS_XX_1.vob, VTS_XX_2.vob, VTS_XX_n.vob are the same file, but spitted because of filesystem limitations?

sorry, i don't get the concept of VTS and PGC. Is there any explanation? (i have searched on google, but they all say the same)

No, _0 is the menu file, _1, _2, _3 etc. are the same file splitted because of the filesystem limitations.

DVDs consist of one or more VTSs numbered 1-99
VTSs consist of one or more PGCs numbered 1-999(1)
PGCs consist of one or more cells numbered 1-99(2)(3)
PGCs and cells are renumbered in each VTS from 1. you refer to them as VTS 1 PGC 1, etc.

(1) if a PGC has a Title Number, it becomes a Title on the DVD. therfore each VTS can have one or more Titles, and even more PGCs. Titles are absolute, one Title number can occur only once on a DVD. (actually there is a step between PGC and Title called TTNs, so Titles can have more than one PGCs, but that's rare, and i wanna keep it simple, so let's forget about it)

(2) one cell can be used in more than one PGC, therefore you can create overlapping PGCs. e.g. you can have PGC 1 containing Cell 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and PGC 2 containing Cell 2, 3, 5, 6. this way, as you can see, some parts overlap, some parts are missing (this way you can create different versions of movies - director's cut & theatrical version, or even more, using the same cells, this way you don't have to have two full movies, thus saving disc space.)(of course this is more complex, too, cells have VobIDs and CellIDs, but that's another story.)

(3) most of the times cells are included in the Chapter Table of a PGC, so each each cell can represent a chapter, but a chapter can contain more than one cell. it's a kind of sub-grouping of cells within one PGC/Title (this is more complex again).

as for problems with divx and xvid i can't help you, i'm a narrow minded dvd fanatic. :)

You could use DVDFabdecrypter. It can play the PGCs for you in a small player.
