Im compiling a dvd with the new tmpgenc 3 but when i came to do the final compile to get the vobs it says its gonna take 54 minutes now i can only assume that its transcoding the files but the thing is they dont need transcoding. I have already encoded the audio and video correctly.

Tmpgenc 1.5 took about 8 minutes or so to compile something of the same size.

Anyone have a clue whats going on ??

I have looked through the options but did'nt see anything.

UPDATE...

OK, i found in the help file that is i leave under target size set to None then it will compile without transcoding, but it still reckons its gonna take about 50 minutes to compile.

Hi!

Although the following thread refers to v.2.0, the same methodology mentioned in three last two or three posts may also be applicable to v.3.0:

Im also using dvd author 3, Heres whats going on:

Load your files into dvd author 3, on the source page click setting in the left margin, click on the video tab, now where it says encoder mode at the top dropdown box select:

RE-Encode all videos as below:

Select your desired bitrate & max bitrate & set the motion search precision under the video encoder advanced setting which is the tab at the bottom then select 1 or 2 pass to ENCODE, note: in this mode the target size does nothing because (you set the bitrate instead of target size) you are ENCODING not transcoding.

Automatic (smart rendering prioritized):

The bitrate settings & the video encoder advanced settings do nothing here just move the picture quality slider to where you want it & set 1 or 2 pass , now this mode is where you set the target size on the output page because you are TRANSCODING instead of encoding.

NOTE: The encoding mode may take up to 5 times longer than the transcoding mode, im still new to this program myself & are currently doing tests to find out which mode id prefer to go with.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

yamyam, im not trying to or even wanting to encode anything. All i want to do is author a dvd but author 3 always seems to transcode. The files are dvd complient so is the audio.

Read carefully the post by setarip_old (above), especially the part about closed GOPs. Then see, if the same can be applied with version 3.

If you select smart rendering & dont set a target size then it will author without transcoding (just tested it) provided your file is dvd compliant but the imported file has to have both video & audio together you cannot import elementary streams for this i use ifoedits dvd author or rejigs.

1.5 and 1.6 you could just import a mpv,m2v,ac3 etc... no problem, as long as there were compliant files for DVD standards. Not being able to do that is just stupid. kinda defeats the point of a dvd authoring program.

I check that thread, what sort of retardedness is that, having to have the GOP's closed. Never had to in version 1.5 and 1.6.

Seems to me they have just fracked tmpgenc author up. Thanks for the info though, think i'll stick with 1.6.
