View Full Version : How can I tell if ESS has been incorporated?

I've downloaded loads of avi vids at 700mb only to find ESS was not used and it will not play on my Philips standalone. I have over 400 disks that have been pitched because they are (IMO) useless unless they play on the standalone.

Is there a way to determine whether ESS compatiblilty was checkmarked on a downloaded video (such as from newsgroups)?

As a side note, I have to ponder why ESS compatibility is not checkmarked as a default setting. Most people prefer to watch the resulting video on the family TV, as opposed to crowding the family around the personal monitor ...

Anyway, I would appreciate anyone telling me how to determine whether or not the original encoder had ESS option checkmarked. If I can download, say, the first .rar file, extract it as a sample, and look for something in the code that indicates ESS compatibility.

thanks for any input ...
