Hi,
You can find "Technical White Papers" here:
http://www.blu-raydisc.com/Section-13470/Section-13628/Index.html
AACS specs can be found here: http://www.aacsla.com/specifications
Also there is a Blu-ray licensing site http://www.blu-raydisc.info/ where you can get some idea what specifications exist but you cannot download them. They only seem to sell them to "choosen" people and for very big money. I would also like to read some of the documents mentioned on that site...

Can you also play the blu-ray menu and extra ?
I mean, is the blu-ray on BD-RE media working exactly like an excrypted blu-ray movie ?

Yes, it is same as the original BD movie. It contains menu and extras.
I will try BD-R and see whether it is supported or not!

Just follow the guide: http://wesleytech.com/backupbluray-guide/83/
I use Roxio DVDit Pro HD instead of Nero to brun BDMV:
http://www.cd-dvds.net/images/bd/backupbluray/burntodisc.gif
My BD-RE disc contains BDMV, AACS, CERTIFICATE folders just like the original:
http://www.cd-dvds.net/images/dvd/temp/isobuster.gif
Burn on the TDK BD-RE and play menu and extras as well.
I will post some pictures later.

What if you exclude AACS folder? As far as I remember at the time when BackupBluRay only appeared and people did some testings with it, they found that Samsung player only plays a BD-RE copy of Blu-ray disc if AACS folder is not included.
Aslo, it would be interesting to know what Roxio DVDit does differently compared to Nero. Can someone do a binary comparison for all files, except .m2ts, and also compare disc information using, say, DVDInfoPro.
Did someone try using other burning programs, like RecordNOW ("Home" of Roxio EMC 9) or latest ImgBurn?
To my understanding Blu-ray does not store positions of files on disc in files themselves (like DVD does in .IFO files), and you only have to put all those Blu-ray folders to UDF2.5 disc. I might be wrong though.

To my understanding Blu-ray does not store positions of files on disc in files themselves (like DVD does in .IFO files), and you only have to put all those Blu-ray folders to UDF2.5 disc. I might be wrong though.
I have tested it on PS3 and Pioneer Elite BDP-HD1 Blu-ray Disc Player, the AACS folder does not influnce the playback. Sometimes I play BDMV in the harddrive, PowerDVD will say that it is AACS protected and can not playback unless I rename AACS folder.
I don't use Nero because it does not have BDMV module, only setup UDF 2.5 format may not match the BDMV standard. And I also don't trust other burning software because their BDMV (or BDAV) compatibility is terrible. Many tests have been done (including ImgBurn) and I am tired of it.
If you want to test by yourself, I recommand that you try Ulead (Corel) DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus or CyberLink PowerProducer. This kind of authoring software might work better!

stewart, which ps3 do you own?
i did several tests with bdmv,bdav and m2ts on data disk.(tdk bd-re 2.1 media)
on pal ps3 (1.5 and 1.6 firmware) won't play any of bdmv/av.
bd-re disk.
bdmv: icon pops up, and when i try to play it, the error shows up.
bdav:ps3 autoplay it, than after some sec of loading, again the error.
data disk: it plays the m2ts files like a charm, but of course no interactivity or any menu
samsung dbp-1000 (pal) and sony dbp-s1 won't play any of those disks. i've checked manuals and the bd-re and bd-r playback is not supported. i know sony has released a new firmware with a patch for that (on ntsc players), but all samsung pal players have same 1.0 firmware and no upgrade yet.
i had to test both player in some local stores, i don't own any of those, and also sony dbp-s1 pal version is not out yet for customers.
could you post some more specs on how do you write, and which soft do you use
atm i've ONLY tested homemade stuff, 1920x1080p and i, authoring with menu and interactivity (bdmv), and with only main video track without menu (bdav).
could you do a similar test with non ripped stuff?

The PS3 I have is Taiwanese version.
From the begining of 2007, I have done many tests about BDAV and BDMV burning but most results are disappointed:
Roxio EMC8.2 can build BDAV disc but is not playable on PS3.
CyberLink PowerProducer can build BDAV disc but is not playable on PS3.
Nero Vision can build BDAV disc but is not playable on PS3.
Ulead BD DiscRecorder 2.51 can build BDAV disc and is playable on PS3.
Roxio DVDit Pro HD 6.3 can build BDMV disc and is playable on PS3 (only valid from firmware v1.60).
Now Ulead releases DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus, CyberLink PowerProduce has some patch (upgrade), Nero Vision builds new version......, it is very difficult to test all the compatibility with PS3. Especially there are many brands of BD-R/BD-RE discs to test.

did you burnt ONLY bluray disk backup or have you tryed also to build bdmv with your own stuff?
i haven't tested yet any bluray decrypted backup so i dunno if is an issue of bdmv/av authoring, or burning.

A number of people, including myself, have made many projects with DVDit Pro HD (see Roxio forum, AVS forum) and are unable to play the BDMV on PS3 - version 1.6. Have you actually done this and what settings do you use?

I just use Roxio DVDit Pro HD "Burn to Disc" to wirte the ripped file to BD-RE disc. I did not create BDMV disc by importing video files!
