Just starting to capture tv and I think I bought the wrong tuner. I get cable tv but on the advice of someone selling a cheapo card I bought a winfast2000 analog tuner and was told using svideo I would be able to capture anything the high end hauppauge card could do.

I'm willing to absorb the cost of the mistake - if it was one - but i think I need help determining what card I do need. I have been told everything from the tidbit above to ..." buy the hauppauge WinTV-PVR-350 - etc..."

I looked at the hauppauge 150 but read that it doesn't come with decoder hardware - do i need that?

What should I buy.

BTW: I have a fast computer (dual core intelx86) and 2gig physical memory so hardware isn't an issue.

Well.. you're asking about two separate things. The title of the thread is "best DV encoder" which is flawed to begin with, since there is no "best" :)

Your post indicates that you are trying to capture analog video, not DV video (from a DV camera).

What is your goal? To capture analog cable TV?

Please clarify, and you might want to read the rules again :D

Thanks. My goal is to capture digital tv.
Also I want to know if a winfast2000 analog capture card can capture digital tv - I bought one which probably was the wrong thing to do.

Also if that card is no good, I want suggestions as to the best card.

Sorry about the title - I thought the "?" at the end showed I wanted to know what it was.

Best DV encoder? Please read and follow forum rules, specifically, rule 12: do not ask what's best. Thank you.
