According to this (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10059013&&#post10059013) post, the European Studio Canal issued a press release that blaims the delay in their hidef releases on the new version of AACS due in April.

According to Amir's response, this AACS "update" is targetting PC players only (no changes to the standalones).
Something like this is expected. Altough its interesting they are actually delaying (the pressings of) discs for this. Almost as if they hope the next keys are not going to be found. We'll see about that. ;)

PC only Sounds like a new MKB version and/or Host private keys. Possibly the introduction of Sequence Keys (which will be interesting) but I doubt it.

We should take a look at PowerDVD 7.3 and its "hardness". But only privatly share info about it until this actually happens...

It also seems odd to me that they take so long to actually come up with a new MKB. I guess that they have to generate it, test it to make sure that it's not going to break any players, release it to the duplicators, get the discs pressed, distributed to stores before they end up in the consumers' hands. So it doesn't look like they move that quickly. Between keys being found and actually being revoked can be many months, from the look of things.

Assuming I understand how parts of key-revoking works (which i probably dont so...), if a key is revoked, when the device gets a "new disc" (that was stamped after the revoking), doesnt it disable the ability to act as drive anymore?

Im sure they test for this but it would be amazing if they messed up somehow, pulled a SonyBMG rootkit style attack, and nuke a huge portion of normal consumers players. It would completely suck for the consumers who are using the players in a way AACSLA deems "legal" (i dont consider whats done here "illegal" but they might) but it might spell certain doom for AACS.

As has been confirmed by the Sony compressionist on AVS (here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10153476#post10153476)), FOX has delayed their hidef releases for the same reason as Studio Canal - AACS hacks.
What is even more interesting, it looks like FOX titles will have BD+ implemented as well (from the same link).

If every AACS hack will trigger a 3 months delay in hidef releases, how much life is left in those formats?
Or do the studios/AACS LA hope to fix the issue for good?

Sad. This is an unintended consequence, I am sure, of the fleet of progs around which can decrypt these formats. This is a real shame IMO.

Such a delay seems illogical in that both "sides" lose - it costs the studios money and buyers are frustrated, too.

Hopefully, when the war is more settled between copyright owners and people who backup their DVDs and BDs (and the programmmers who make the tools to do so), there will be no delays in releasing material.

This is an unintended consequence...But certainly not unexpected.
Hopefully, when the war is more settled...there will be no delays in releasing material.I think the backup mechanics would have to become 10 times harder before the studios will consider this "leakage" acceptable - they seem to be very determined to prevent hidef DVDs go the DVD route in terms of "backup-ability". Even the format war - where every day delay in releasing a title is very valuable - hasn't stopped them from taking a break and waiting for the AACS "update".

I was surprised that Sony released Casino Royale.

I guess that they had to. Can you imagine what would have happened with the PS3 launch in Europe if they said there would be no discs available for a few weeks whilst we just re-work our copy protection? There would have been even more PS3 left on the shelves than there currently are!
