View Full Version : RipIt4Me doesn't see DVD Drive

RipIt4Me worked fine and still does up through v1.4.13.0. After that point none of the RipIt4Me versions can see my DVD Drive with the error message "DVD Drive locked or not found." I've tried using the Microsoft API setting but it makes no difference. I'm trying to understand what could have changed in RipIt4Me after v1.4.13.0 that creates this problem for me. Any ideas would be welcome.
Thanks.

Have you tried the beta on the RipIt4Me (http://www.ripit4me.org/) home page. Many people are reporting success with this version.

Thanks for the suggestion but yes, I have tried the beta version 1.7.0.99 with the same problem persisting.

RipIt4Me worked fine and still does up through v1.4.13.0Just to be certain that I understand you correctly, are you saying that v.1.4.13 still works properly on the same system and with the same DVD that gives you problems with more recent versions?

With the more recent versions, try FIRST starting RipIt4Me (and select either "Wizard mode" or "One click mode") - and THEN insert the DVD into your drive...

Another good suggestion but it didn't work. Trying it both ways I still get the same "DVD Drive locked or not found." This is using the newest beta version RipIt4Me and the earlier 1.7.0.0. Right now with everything the same I can try it with version 1.4.13 and it sees everything perfectly. This happens with ALL DVD's.

The next logical step would be to compare each and every setting and preference that you have in v.1.4.13 to those of the subsequent versions...

BTW - I continue to successfully use v.1.6.4.0. It handles the latest "ARccOS" protection schemes perfectly...

**EDIT** I noticed the following in the "Changelog" at the RipIt4Me homepage:Important NOTE: For those of you who are still having problems where the drive or the DVD isn't detected, please run the LBAExtract app that's on the RipIt4Me home page (http://www.ripit4me.org/LbaExtract.zip) and post your results. We need to get to the bottom of these problems, and we need your help for this! Thanks in advance!

I compared the two settings and they're identical keeping in mind the changes that have been made...no FIXVTS Settings and the earlier version had no option for Copy IFO's. But everything else if basically the same. Like I say v1.4.13.0 works great. I started having problems with v1.5.6.0 when I got an error, "Couldn't read Sector 16 while parsing file system." I got that same error with v1.5.7.0. With v1.6.0.0 I started getting the message "DVD Drive not found." and that has continued through the present beta version.

Now that you're indicating different error messages received with different versions, I'd suggest that you carefully read the "Changelog" for each version, so that you can spot where the specific errors arose and where they were addressed...

Did you run the "LBAExtract app" that's on the RipIt4Me home page? (See post #6, above)

BTW - What is your O/S?

- Attempted to fix the "Not a DVD" problem that some users have had in 1.7.0.0. If that still does not work, post the debug log you get during Step1.
@dickcu - please post this information.

Just as a data point, I have two DVD drives in my PC and with one of them, a Samsung read-only, I occasionally get "unable to read/copy VTS" errors at the very beginning of the RI4M process where it's making backups of the IFOs. When I switch to ripping in my other drive, a Pioneer DL writer, RI4M reads all the files with no errors.

I've not reported this because I thought the problem was a Samsung problem, but after reading this read I'm not so sure--apparently RI4M uses some special/fancy "read" methodology?

To answer all of your questions. First I'm running XP Pro with Service Pack 2 installed. I have two DVD Drives plus a CD Drive. Both DVD Drives worked perfectly with v1.4.13 and versions previous and still do. The 1.5 versions show Sector 16 parsing problem errors. From the 1.6.0.0 version through the current 1.7.0.99 beta I received the DVD Drive not found error on both DVD Drives. Here is the Debug log after running 1.7.0.99.

SPTI layer unavailable"SPTI" is a standard part of the WinXP installation. Have you somehow lost or disabled it?

dickcu
18th March 2007, 03:42
Thanks a lot for the info. I don't have any knowledge about SPTI layers but I'll see what I can find about reinstalling it.

Try to see if DVD Decrypter with SPTI can find your drive. (in DVD Decrypter's option, there's a choice between SPTI, ASPI and other interfaces).
If decrypter can't use SPTI, something's amiss. However, RipIt4Me should be able to use ASPI...

Looks like it defaults to the SPTI setting and it finds my drives fine.

Sorry to dig up a semi old thread, but I am having the same problem.

What is weird is that the same version of Ripit4me worked great just a little while ago. I haven't installed any new programs that would have an affect on the spti layer, and DVD Decrypter reads via SPTI perfectly fine.

I downloaded ASPI, it ripit4me will read through that perfectly fine now. However, I still would like it to read through the original SPTI layer.

Does anyone know what is wrong?

@Merlin7777

Hi!

Have you tried the standard - Uninstall RipIt4Me, reboot, Reinstall RipIt4Me?

aanorris

Had a similar problem. Uninstalled the DVD drive, rebooted and now all is wel.

@setarip_old

I sort of did. The thing is, I didn't install it. I just downloaded the zip file directly. So, what I did was go to where the application data was stored, deleted it all, re-extraced Ripit4me, and had the same problem.

However, I did not reboot once in all this. Did think I needed to. I will do so when I get home tonight though.

@aanoris
What do you mean, you "uninstalled the DVD Drive"? You ripped the ide cable out the back? Uninstalled the drivers? Did you eventually reinstall it?

aanorris
4th June 2007, 15:31
I used device manager to uninstall, rebooting automatically reinstalls.

Adub
5th June 2007, 06:16
Okay, I "uninstalled" Ripit4me by deleting its directory in "Application Data". Rebooted. That didn't work.

Uninstalled my DVD Drive. Rebooted. It reinstalled itself. That didn't work.

Okay, any other thoughts, or should I just suffer on until I do a clean install of XP?
