I didn't know if this threat is in the right section. If not please move it:
I tried using the newest Megui for avc-encoding (Megui0.2.4.1039 and x264 r628) on my System (Intel Dual Core 6600, Vista Ultimate). I realized that encoding speed is much slower than on the same machine with WIN XP.
During the encoding CPU load didn't rise over 52% CPU/OS load. I tried setting the "threads" from "auto/0" to "2" or "3". But result is the same, 52% CPU/OS load. I think Megui/X264 uses only one CPU while encoding in VISTA.
Anyone an idea how to solve this issue????
Thanks
A.D.

when i set threads to auto in vista, x264cli does --threads 2, mine bounces between 75%-100% cpu, which i presume is correct. i can't force anymore than 2 threads, so whether this is a bug, or is correct i don't know. I do remember the earlier build of megui 2.3.x would set threads to 3 for dual core. encoding 1080p @ 1920x814 for example i get around 1.4fps, on c2d e6600 @ 3.46ghz. i don't think megui is setting the thread count correctly as it isn't now encoding as fast as previously, but perhaps this is how it should be.

Slightly related for you de66ka: if you dig through this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=122318) thread, you may wanna rethink running vista for the time being anyway. There are examples in there of people doing the xp to vista comparison encoding the same file with the same job files, app, etc. and finding out that vista, for whatever reason is slower than xp.
