Is there a method of converting a DD5.1 file to a lossless WMA 5.1 without first converting the DD5.1 to six mono wave files. I would like to eliminate the six mono wave step if at all possible.

Yes, DirectShow based encoders can do that via AC3filter.

You need NicAudio.dll (http://nic.dnsalias.com/NicAudio_alpha3.zip) at ...\Avisynth 2.5\Plugins folder and after use in the avs script:

NicAc3Source("G:\yourpath\audio.ac3", DRC=0)

With DRC=1 the Dynamic Range Compression present in the ac3 stream are applied.
