My AOPEN 10x40x can't read much new DVDz, i have flashed him a long time ago to a Pioneer 114 (ver 2.06) so it's region free.

Almost half of dvdz that come out last month or so i can't read.

Anyone knows an answers?

ps.
Anyone that could suggest a good drive that can play all dvdz and dvd+rw?

thnx!

I bet if you were to flash your firmware back to the original firmware it would be able to read the disks.

either that or the new firmware told it to use x amount of power to the laser, which is more than it should've been getting, and it quickly burnt out your laser, or more likely the circuits providing power to your laser.

I have seen this happen a few times, especially with cdrw and dvd drives. have you by any chance installed a software program that warned you it may cause permanent dame to your hardware? I know of one program that will kill in just a couple of weeks, called clonecd.

lesson to be learned:

don't flash firmware unless you really have to. you are entitled to change regions so many times on your drive, and you shouldn't unlock the drive until it tells you you ran out of change times.

Thnx for your help!

i have search for my firmware (original) i can't find it not even on Aopens site  .

(as burning software i use nero and cdrwin, so that will(i think) not be the problem, and i never copy from cd to cd (always with a image))

I'm now search for a good new dvd-rom drive.

Well I have the same drive. I guess I don't use it too much for DVDs since I have a standalone player, but I've never run across any DVDs it wouldn't read. Not sure which version firmware I have either, but I do know that I never flashed it to the Pioneer version.
