View Full Version : (Auto) Gordian Knot BUG!?

First I noticed this problem in Auto Gordian Knot (I used v2.26 & v2.40 Stable):
When I ripping DVD movie on 2 CDs (2x700 MB), using XviD codec, with AUTOSPLIT option activated, at the output there is two files (of course), but there is problem at second CD, I got about 12 "empty seconds" at the end of AVI file (when I tell "empty seconds" I think on seconds that never count down, they are excess, added at the end of movie without any reason)!?! Later, using program 'AVI-Mux GUI' I find that this "empty seconds" are consequence of about 300 DROPPED FRAMEs that appears at the and of AVI file... In all this, it is very interesting that this DROPPED FRAMEs don't exists in original, NOT SPLITTED, output AVI file of 1400 MB!? It means that problem issues after splitting into 2 CDs...

IMPORTANT: All of this NOT HAPPENED with DivX Codec!!!

I tried everything to fix this bug (changed many versions of XviD codec, changing VirtualDubMod and AviSynth) but nothing help... After I reinstall my operating system, but neither this help! I ripped movies on other computers (them 3), but I always get same results! I tried to find answer on many forums but nothing (finally, here I am on DOOM9! :) )...

After over 2 years of using Auto Gordian Knot and since I can't fix the problem with DROPPED FRAMEs, I decided to try rip my DVDs with Gordian Knot (Gordian Knot Rip Pack v0.35.0 - Pack 2)! At the beginning, everything was OK, but when I perchance changed something in my Gordian Knot options, the Auto Gordian Knot's problem is back in GK!? Then, after many, many time and pain, I figured what is the problem:
Choice of "Resize Filter" in "Save .avs" dialog makes in some cases bug (DROPPED FRAMEs) in second CD, at the following way:
"Bilinear", "Sharp Bicubic" and "Lanczos (sharp)" resize filters working OK (without DROPPED FRAMEs), but "Soft Bicubic" (about 300 dropped frames), "Neutral Bicubic" (about 200 d.f.) and "Simple (fast)" (about 300 dropped frames) has the same BUG like that in Auto Gordian Knot...

Later, I noticed too, that Auto Gordian Knot use "LanczosResize" in comptest, and "BicubicResize(xxx,xxx,0,0.5) = Neutral Bicubic" at second pass (which have problem with dropped frames that can see like proof at the end of output file)...

And I think that THIS IS THE BUG IN Auto Gordian Knot ABOUT I TALKING!?
I hope that some of admins or Auto GK developers (len0x :) ) read this, and tell me am I wrong, or really problem exists!?

Can anyone tell me how to fix this in Auto Gordian Knot (in GK I simple choose, for example, "Lanczos (sharp)" resizer and bug is fixed, but in Auto GK this is not possible)???

Hi,

If I understand you right, this bug only happens in AGK if
1/Bicubic resize is used AND
2/ Predefined size of 2CDs (1400Mb) /split is selected

If so, you cannot choose directly the resizer in AGK but, you can choose the output size as 1399 or 1401Mb 1 file, no split and split manually after AGK has finished with VdubMod. That should get rid of this bug.

Another indirect way not to use Bicubic resize would be either to
- Let AGK choose the softmatrix hence less chances needed to make a softer resize (by not selecting the sharpmatrix option) and/or
- Raise the output size so the lanczos resize will be used...

Let us know if successfull.

Yes, You understand right... Although I never tried set output on 3 CDs and see what then happened...? With certitude I only can say that 1 CD conversion work perfect!

I tried this already... :) It is alternative solution, very good, but not perfect, because I never can split file into two new manual like Auto GK do that automaticly (I always get bigger overhead in my AVIs than Auto GK did, and sometimes my size override 700 MB... Yes, I know that I can set original output size about 1398 or smaller, a and then I will get nice size at 2 CD output (~ 700 MB, not larger), but all of this is "game of cat and mouse", is it!? :)
...And now, there is opened one new question:
Why I can't split manual (with VirtualDubMod) one file (of 1400 MB) into two new (2x700 MB) with that precision like Auto Gordian Knot do that (no need to say that Auto GK use same version of VirtualDubMod like I did  )??? What is the secret of his method!?! :)

I obligate will tried this... :thanks:

- Raise the output size so the lanczos resize will be used...

How much do You think that I must to raise the output size approximately...? 3 CDs? This is to much! Or if I raise only few MB, then I can't burn my movies into CD (of course, I use DVDs for my movies, but if there is need to be burned on CD - again problem)...

Let us know if successfull.

I will... Thank You, BigDid, very much!

Now, new question:
Will this problem (from my first post) can be fixed in some future versions of Auto Gordian Knot! I fright that answer is NO, because, this is not BUG in Auto Gordian Knot (mediate yes, but...), than BUG in some existent Resize Filters...? But developer(s) of Auto Gordian Knot knows the best what can do with that (if he/they read anything of this :) )!?

Stole

:( This is not working...

P.S. Sharpmatrix is by default NOT SELECTED! Also, I tried and with selecting the same, but nothing work...

I hoped that I will get much more answers on this forum, because this is a forum with the best DVD and DivX specialist! :)
Only one man read this post and tried to help me... And NOT ONLY TO ME, this is the BUG that refers all us which use this software!!!

Hi,

Correct, see FAQ for some details. Still it depends on the compressibility of the source for AGK to use soft or sharpmatrix and soft or sharpresizer ... See the XVID Cqm/Matrixes thread on AGK behaviour: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=797163#post797163

I let time pass, on purpose, to see if someone was willing to answer; which is not the case. Maybe the absence of answers will trigger something on your side ... you may also want to read the sticky on top of this section: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=14432 and inside that thread this link: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=14432

I'll be off for 2 weeks so others can contribute freely during that time (and whenever wanted) :)
