View Full Version : PgcEdit: Trying "Jumping straight to the main menu"...

I'm trying the guide "Jumping straight to the main menu"
(http://jean.laroche.free.fr/Jumping0.4.3.1/index.html) on a DVD I have. The DVD has several menu pages of subtitle language selections, "my" language is of course on the last...

So, I want to find the player settings for when the subtitle language is chosen, then jump to the movie and from there to the menu. Just like the very clear guide instructs.

The guide is for an older version of the program, but for me it seems easy to follow it anyway. The only problem is that I can't get it to work...

I open the DVD folder and make the most thorough (slow & complete) search for BOV's, since I suspect there are some in the movie. But none are found.

Enabling Trace Mode.

Checking that the "Auto Renumber GOTOs" is selected.

I open Info-->GPRMs, 7 are marked as free.

I put a playback breakpoint at the movie, after having previewed that it indeed is the movie. It becomes "blue-highlighted".

I click the "Up Arrow" to reset everything before starting the trace.

The I click the ->>> Run button. Nothing happens. I set "Break at all menus" as well as titles. Nothing happens.

What's wrong? User Error, or what?

I've never tried that way. I've always used this guide (http://download.videohelp.com/r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/blutach/How_to_use_PgcEdit_new_macro.htm).

You've got the latest PgcEdit version: v8? Make sure you set up your Virtual Player. Trace should work first time.

Question to the others: what does "Auto Renumber GOTOs" mean? It is unticked on mine, what difference will it make?

@jolson
Use the guide cited by linx05. It is more recent, and it uses an easy function I've written to automate the old guide written by jeanl. It's a lot easier now!

The trace mode should work. In some rare cases, it can be broken. When that happens, restart PgcEdit.
If it doesn't work, post here the content of the trace log.

@linx
Renumber goto is an option to automatically renumber the target line numbers of the goto commands when you insert or delete commands between a goto and its target. IMO, this option should be enabled, as it's very useful.

OK, I will do that.

However, I just tried the "old" guide again, but did ->Step instead of ->>>Run and now the program seemed to play ball and Media-Player Classic thinks the result is good enough (too late now to burn it and try in my stand-alone player).

Great!
Next time, use the newer guide. You will be amazed to see how it's easy now!

It was also nice to follow a guide and understand everything, and learn something about the PGCs as well :)

When I burned the DVD the program complained about not being able to relocate the files, and that the DVD might be non-compliant. Well, it worked better than the original... :)

And I agree with 2COOL. Use ImgBurn. If something is really illegal, it will refuse to burn the DVD, but will not warn you in stupid cases, like Nero does.

Also consider running the Adjust Sectors --> In Input Folder function of VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm) just before burning. Not even stupid Ner0 will complain then.

Thanks, my (old) version of it didn't have the "Build" facility.

Very interesting guide.
Do I just skip the intros and stuff before jumping directly to the desired menu or is the material removed from the dvd-copy ? I want to save space if trailers/warnings are skipped by deleting them from the copy.
How can I do this? Maybe first PGCEdit and afterwards VobBlanker?

Using the guide I linked, you are given the option to blank the crap at the start of the DVD. Once you have finished the guide, you may run the DVD through VobBlanker or FixVTS to remove the now unreferenced stuff. This will gain some extra space.

Cool ;-)

Thanks a lot linx05.
