Hi, I'm trying to find a common thread for this problem so I have made this small poll. Select your CPU type and specify your cpu model and specs and also how CCE crashed/freezed/stalled. Thanks.

DO NOT VOTE IF CCE DOESN'T CRASH ON YOUR COMPUTER PLEASE.

how about when CCE freezes poll
Were you overclocking CPU
Using conservative memory settings, etc.?

CCE works like a charm...

first on my Athlon 900 and now on my Athlon 1800 XP (both not overclocked, conventional settings)....

Done dozens of movies, all perfect quality..

Vote DVD2SVCD for the Nobel prize :-)

perhaps a new sticky thread with title

"report all encoding freezes"

include all following information:
1. cpu (amd/intel)
2. cpu overclocked (y/n)
3. bios set to conservative or performance settings (c/p)
4. type of dvd (pal/ntsc)
5. movie length (minutes)
6. number of passes for vbr encode
7. exact stage at which crash occurred
8. nature of crash
9. operating system (98,98se,me,w2k,xp)
10. work around found ?
11. other possible relevant details

perhaps the author and mrbass might like to add some more
id be happy to start recording more data when i get crashes
if you would like this information

Athlon 800

Ive backed up a lot of movies and only had 1 freeze up with shrek region 4. Im sure it was the movies fault as it only froze in one spot in the credits. I cut off the credits with vStrip and it worked fine

Duron 900 Asus a7a266 448megs pc133 ram win 98

cce freezes at 62%.
if I set the bitrate max and min avg to a difference of 300 like mr.bass suggested when it gets to 62% it overrights the file it is making.

my computer is not OC'd and conventional memory settings

both of my machines (piii 800 @ 940 and athlon 1.4) are both not crashing now as a result of installing winxp
using 1.0.5 setup exe bundles beta 3 and beta 4 :)
both crashed using win98 and those win 98 setups were pretty stable for 95% other tasks.

Amd T-Bird 1.4Ghz, 512DDR 30gigs free, xp. CCE Stalled on me for every dvd I tried so far. Ronin, My Myself and Irene and Fallen. Im using DVD2svcd 1.05 build 3 Trying to do 3-4 pass vbr without temp smoothing. Im trying every which way to figure it out, but so far I got nothing accomplished.

I had one freeze on my old system a P3 750 slightly overclocked to 800 regular memory settings.

I have had zero freezes on my Athlon XP 1700+ very overclocked and very aggressive memory timings.

I have run DVD2SVCD on 98/2000/XP all with no freezes.

@Hardware:

Could you try this: http://rilanparty.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12573

If it still fails try the memory test program that mrbass recommends. It's in the Q&A. Thanks :)

Hey man, I actually did this last night and its still ripping now. Ill tell you this. It already got much further in the process and Im ripping with 4pass vbr with temp smoothing on. Im getting excited. Im hoping this works out. Only problem. Im an idiot. I forgot to get rid of the CCE logo so Im going to have to do it all over. As long as it works. Ill be a happy camper. Ill keep you up to date. It says 6 hours left. Talk to you soon and thanks a lot!

I run a 1GHz Athlon with 512MB RAM & MB with VIA chipset (98SE & XP PRO).
I find that CCE only freezes when the maximum average bitrate is over 2040 kbps(approx), and I'm doing more than 1 pass. Increasing memory from 256MB just made it freeze at a later point.
I now set the max bitrate to 2000 and it never fails.

I hope this helps others as well.

Well, the updated AVIsynth worked for me. I ripped Fallen in 14 hours. Too bad I didnt crack CCE. Anyway, I will report any problems that might pop up. Thanks a lot to dvd2svcd. If there is anything you ever want to test out. Let me know. Im always into helping people out and I really appreciate your help. Thanks again!

Well, I just did Me, Myself And Irene with no problem. And also the CCE logo is gone. The AVIsynth fixed my problem it seems. Thanks again!

I'm working with a Athlon 1400C on a SIS-Board (Elitegroup), 512MB RAM, nothing overclocked. 20 Movies riped and convert correctly with DVD2SVCD, 2 Movies crashed (CCE freezed). And CCE freeze always at the same position (beetween 60% and 70%).
OS is Win98Se or WinXP (I tried it in both).
Update AVISynth - no result.

I was doing The Godfather part 1 with vbr 4 pass and it crashed (again) after 14 hours (72%) encoding it was almost there just needed another 3 hours.
ctsp.exe created errors and a error log was created but guess what cant find the error log.
I was using 1.0.4 build 2 with I-Author first time and it crashed.
Second time i used 1.0.5 build 4 same settings except for I-Author and it crashed again (+- 70%).

Damn just read about the freeze prob and mine doesnt freeze but just crash sorry bout it.

Man, I know your pain. I was getting so frustrated when my rips would stall. I just did Fallen and that finised after like 17 hours. 4 pass with temp smoothing on. Avisynth really worked for me. Now Im having a damn PS2 problem. The freaking CD pot went haywire on me today. Now I cant play backups or ps1 originals.

Celeron 1.1, Abit Bh6, 512MB ram. I've only tried this program twice so far, both times CCE froze 10 hours into the project. I don't think it has anythign to do with DVD2SVCD however. I'm going to try CCE by itself and see what happens.

CCE freezes after second pass of VBR.

OS: WinXP
My rig:
Tyan Tiger MP MoBo
2 AMD Athlon XP 1700+
Crucial 4x256 Mb Registered DDR-RAM
Virtual memory set at 2048 Mb

BTW:
CCE doesn't use more than 60% of my processor time and about 512 Mb of RAM. With all filters on this gets me 1.53 RT.

If only we could get rid of the freezes AND make it faster! ;)

freezes on 1st pass of 4 in CCE

Intel P4 2Ghz
384Mb RDRAM
Intel D850GB mobo

However, everthing runs ok on a single pass.

CCE always freezes for me...
I have "try me" and others. I have formatted and started with a clean install of WinXP Pro OEM. Installing nothing but CCE. It Freezes at the same spot continously...I have tried every setting...every update...It freezes using Avi's or AVIsynth. I have used every different VOB-Ripper I can find. It freezes using VDUB frameserver. It freezes using uncompresed wav with uncompressed AVI's. I have noticed that while it is working it uses 60% of Both CPU's But, when it freezes, it jumps to 90 to 100%.

Apparently not upgraded when I installed dvd2svcd 1.0.5b4

Good luck to all!

I had CCE stall a couple days ago whilst Agent was downloading binaries from Usenet. It just froze until (if I remember right) I shut down Agent through the End Task dialog box, then resumed processing. Whoop dee doo I lost about 10 hours of encoding. Grrrr

I still haven't been anble to solve the freezing problem with multiple pass VBR, but it works fine in single pass with q factor of 5. And since it looks great that way AND it only takes 8 hours start to finish for a movie, I'm sticking with those settings.

CCE stopped twice on the same movie on me in the last two days (Did crash recovery). Running Win2000. Upgrading to XP as we speak. Maybe there is some sort of connection.

Never had any problems before.
