Hi,

I am having major trouble ripping most of the new DVD releases such as Stranger Than Fiction, etc.

I am using CloneDVD and it works great with most of my other DVD films (apart from Superman I. I cannot for the life of me rip that  ).

I have DVD43 and DVDDecrypter.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

....I've tried that and it tells me to use it with DVD Decrypter and add a PSL file, which i have done, but it still doesn't rip.

I've tried that and it tells me to use it with DVD Decrypter and add a PSL fileThose steps should be automatic. It sounds like you either haven't properly installed the entire RipIt4Me "package", or you're not using it properly. You might want to re-read the onsite documentation...

Unless you use the 1-click mode, you have to click the "Rip" button on DVD Decrypter yourself.

Thanks, I'll try these.

The thing is, a lot of users are saying that DVD Decrypter is great, but the truth of the matter is that it hasn't ripped any of my newer DVD's.

I downloaded the new version of RipIt4Me and it looks completely different to the version I had before.

im starting to have problems with my new dvds also.. the newest versions of dvdfab have always stayed one step ahead of copy protection, but i believe they dont offer the free standalone decrypter anymore

when im ripping new dvds many programs give me bad sectors and read errors (although the disc is perfectly clean); are these characteristic of the new arccos or other newer protections?

will they still work after being rebuilt if i just hit ignore read errors?

@lex71x

Hi!will they still work after being rebuilt if i just hit ignore read errors?Nope.

Try ripping your DVD(s) using the easy to use "RipIt4me" package (Incorporates RipIt4Me, DVD Decrypter, FixVTS, and DVD Shrink). You can download this excellent freeware from:

www.ripit4me.org

While you're at that site, read the excellent "how to" tutorial...

anyway, DVDFab Decrypter is still available here:

Use RipIt4Me ver 1.70,
I combine RipIt4Me with DVDDecrypter and can solve problem with my Miami Vice DVD. It can rip KingKong too but cannot delete its WaterMark Protection (beware).

holy crap.. so it is available. guess i wasnt looking hard enough, and they changed the link on their 'do you want to upgrade to the newest version' prompt to take you to the version you have to pay for (before it linked to the decrypter..)

ANYWAY if im getting read errors off brand new dvd's, this is typically a sign of copy protection right?

and ripit4me should have the latest to circumvent these, or are there some better, possibly commercial, decrypters that might do a better job with new dvd's?

Not necessarily - it could be a bad pressing or a failing or dirty drive. You should read up on the different methods of advanced copy protection and their tell-tales - one doesn't affect the ripping, only the usability of the rip; the other does show itself as read errors.

RipIt4Me works great. Did have one issue though.. was ripping Hostel and at about 98% - 99% of the DVD Decrypter phase, I started getting sector read errors (vs around 4% without RipIt4Me). I kept clicking ignore and after about 20 clicks, it did get through to 100%, ripped ISO seems to work fine!

Probably means the PSL wasn't imported correctly.

I'm having massive problems ripping Holiday & Casino Royale, both of which are SONY Pictures Films. I am using RipIt4Me but the newest DVD's are just too powerful for it.

....I haven't tried it yet, but I read on another thread that i have to run Ripit4Me before inserting the DVD. I'll try that when i get home.

Also, what is FixVTS? Do I need to install this software separately or does it install with RipIt4Me?

...Ok. So just to summarise....

I have installed the new version of RipIt4Me from www.RipIt4Me.org. I have also downloaded the BETA patch from the downloads section of the site. I have installed the patch and copied the .exe file over my RipIt4Me .exe file within the installation folder of RipIt4Me.

I have already downloaded & installed DVD Decrypter & DVD Shrink.

Before burning any DVD, I will run RipIt4Me, and then proceed to insert the DVD (this is due to some autorun feature I know nothing about).

I click on the 1 Click mode and become very happy with myself as I now have a backed-up version of my DVD's :)

What happens if something goes wrong? Are there any other programs I can download that will overcome any difficulties?

What happens if something goes wrong? Are there any other programs I can download that will overcome any difficulties? What you have now is a suite of programs that will do just about all you need. If something goes wrong, come on back and we'll help you.

I would also load ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com) for your burning requirements though. There is also a version of DVD Shrink that calls ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com) instead of DVD Decrypter to burn.

Was anyone able to successfully decrypt 'Stranger Than Fiction' properly? I am having no joy.

I tried RipIt4Me v1.7.1.0 in 1-click mode. 1st time I tried, during the ripping stage when DVD Decrypter popped up and asked whether it should crack the CSS, I said yes (what I usually do, and which always have worked), but it kept getting stuck at 0% with not being able to find the decryption key. On the 2nd try, I said not to crack the CSS, and it went past the ripping stage, but DVD Shrink crapped out during the Analysis stage:

http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/479/strangerthanfictiondvdsoi7.png

VTS_01_1.VOB seems to be corrupted, because the size of this on the hard drive is 975.7 MB, as opposed to 1023.9 MB on the DVD disk. Also, while opening this VOB in VirtualDubMoD, I see green streak garbage which usually means that the VOB is still encrypted/corrupted.

This is the DVD Decrypter log and RipIt4Me log from the second try:

@unskinnyboy

Hi!

I successfully backed up the R1 version of "Stranger than Fiction" with no difficulty, using RipIt4Me (older v.1.6.4 as a matter of fact - which I still continue to use) in "Wizard" mode.

The critical part of using the RipIt4Me "package" when dealing with many of the SONY releases is to:

FIRST start RipIt4Me and select either "Wizard" mode or "One-click" mode and

THEN load the original DVD

This circumvents the autorun/autoplay activity of these DVDs that, otherwise "give grief" to RipIt4Me. Please note that these files are in NO way harmful to your PC (They are not "rootkits")...

@Angelus, It's a brand new DVD with no scratches. But still I tried wiping it with a soft cloth. Same thing.

@setarip_old, Mine is the R1 version too. I tried what you said - to start RipIt4Me -> 1-click mode and then load the DVD. Same thing. When you did yours, did you have DVD Decrypter ignore the CSS protection or did you crack it? If you ignored it, it would insert this line in the DVD Decrypter log:

W 19:29:30 User chose to ignore encryption on entire non CSS/CPPM protected disc!

Do you have your RipIt4Me.log & DVDDecrypter.log still lying around in your Application Data\RipIt4Me folder? If so, can you paste it here? I'd like to compare them with mine.

Next, I'm gonna take a whack with AnyDVD+CloneDVD2 as soon as I reboot the PC tomorrow - read in cdfreaks than someone managed to get those to work with this DVD.

When you did yours, did you have DVD Decrypter ignore the CSS protection or did you crack it?The ONLY settings that I have altered in DVD Decrypter are as follows:

1) I have activated/checked "Remove .IFO PUOs"
2) I have deactivated/unchecked "Remove .VOB PUOs"

(I forget which of those two is a default and which one I changed so many years ago)

ALL other settings are the Default settings.

Sorry, but I have never bothered to save any related logs...

On the outside chance that you have a poorly pressed disc, I'd suggest you return it to the place of purchase in exchange for a new replacement.

#2 is the default. So #1 is the one you changed. But these options are not pertinent here and not what I was asking even. So I take it that during the ripping stage of this DVD, DVD Decrypter never prompted you to ask if you wanted to crack the CSS or not? That's very strange considering we have the same DVD editions. At this point though, it appears as if the AnyDVD/CloneDVD2 combo worked for this DVD. I will know for sure once I have encoded the VOBs into MPEG-4 and if everything is in sync.

So I take it that during the ripping stage of this DVD, DVD Decrypter never prompted you to ask if you wanted to crack the CSS or not?Nope, no such question.

Perhaps the fact that, as I've mentioned earlier, I continue to use the older version 1.6.4, has some bearing on the appearance or lack of appearance of such a message?

Nope, RipIt4Me itself has got nothing to do with it. Once DVD Decrypter is initiated by RipIt4Me, cracking CSS or not is entirely a DVD Decrypter thing. But this message may have to do with some setting too. Can you post the screenshot of Settings -> CSS in DVD Decrypter? Just want to check if it's different from mine. Here is mine:

And I'd also like to confirm the success of AnyDVD+CloneDVD2 with this disk. I encoded the VOBs to MPEG-4 and the resultant audio & video is perfectly in sync. The subs were grossly out of sync though and had to be manually adjusted.

OT: Any reason why you are still using an older version of RipIt4Me?

@unskinnyboy

My settings are identical to those in your screen capture...

If you have v.1.6.4 of RipIt4Me available, try it and see if you get different/better results...
