i have dvd's burned on dual layered media, and dvdshrink gets an error message. this has happened a few times so i assume it was because dvdshrink has a prob with dual layered media.
is there something i can use that will recognize dl media?
btw, i'm encoding to may archos using dvdshrink and pocketdivxencoder.
thanks

Hi!
(I assume you mean you have commercial, pressed DVDs that are double-layered)
If they are newer titles, chances are they contain "ARccOS" or "RipGuard" protection, that DVD Shrink cannot directly process.
Try ripping your DVD(s) using the easy to use "RipIt4me" package (Incorporates RipIt4Me, DVD Decrypter, FixVTS, and DVD Shrink). You can download this excellent freeware from:
www.ripit4me.org
While you're at that site, read the excellent "how to" tutorial...

nope. they are dual layer media i use to burn extended 2hour plus movies on my dedicated sony dvd burner. it is a stand alone unit that creates dvd's from any video source. i have no probs ripping when i use standard dvd media,,,,only the verbatim dual layer dvd.

There's a good chance that these disks have not been finalized by your device. If they were, you would not need to rip them, you could simply copy the data directly from the disk to the hard drive via Explorer.

Thanks for further explaining the source material ;>}dvdshrink gets an error messageWhat is the SPECIFIC error message?
Can you PLAY the burned D/L disc on your PC?

the dl dvd's were finalized. i use shrink(to edit out all the extraneous stuff) and pocketdivxencoder to reduce the dvd to a smaller avi file to play on my archos av500, not my computer. the final avi encoded at a smaller bitrate allows the archos to use less juice when playing the movie.
the dl dvd's play on both my pc and my dvd player.
the error message says
dvd shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
invalid dvd navigation structure.
thanks

1) It's likely that you have a corrupt .IFO file (When players encounter this, they automatically try to read the comparable/related .BUP file). You might want to try cleaning the disc and examining it for even the slightest physical damage.
2) You may want to copy the DVD to your hard drive and see if DVD Shrink still generates that error message. If not, you can use the hard drive copy for your compression/conversion.
3) Your solution MAY be found in the following link:

(Scroll about 3/4 down to reference to recorded discs)
