View Full Version : How to play HD-DVD using PDVD command line

Hi all,
Has anyone figured out how to launch PDVD 7.2 from the command line and auto-play an HD-DVD ripped to a HDD? I've tried passing DISCID.DAT as the argument, but that, while more or less working, caused all sorts of issues including causing PDVD to drop out of full-screen mode and causing the next track command to stop the movie from playing.
Thanks,
erikt

No, but I really would like to find a shortcut to playing hd dvds with menus (blu rays too), this is vital for media center pcs.

I am really looking to see if there is true command line parameter for playing both BluRay and HDDVDs??
I would love a "file" or a program that could create a macro or exe that automatically launched PowerDVD with the appropriate BluRay or HDDVD folder.
Something that would replicate the "Open movie file on your hard disk drive" option from PowerDVD.
The way my HTPC is setup is that I currently have a hyperlink embedded in the onscreen descriptions of each movie that points to regular DVDs .IFO file and that launches the movie. I need something equivalent for BluRay and HDDVD folders.
HELP!!

With PDVD 7.3, for HD DVDs, you pass the HD DVD's DISCID.DAT as the command line argument to PDVD. I don't own a Blu Ray drive yet, so I don't know what the equivalent is.
My setup is as follows:
I use DVD Profiler to import cover scans and movie details, and Meedio as my front-end with the XML2Mee importer and the PlayMee plug-in.

In experience, loading that .dat file does not keep working menus intact, or often subtitles and such.

I have developed an executable that will start your Movie by just by clicking on it (clicking on my program will start PowerDVD 7.X and start your HD-DVD movie stored on the hard drive).
You could also invoke my executable from a command line.
PM me for details.

I'd love to see that program. For HDDVD, if you double click the XPL file, it will play the movie with menu's etc. I cannot figure it out for bluray yet though.

That's good to know, that works better than the .dat file, the only drawback seems to be the root menu command does not work.

I call PowerDVD from my HTPC front-end...
I just pass the .VLS file to PowerDVD and it works... except I have a ripped HD DVD that doesn't have a ADV_OBJ folder and thus no .VLS file....

If you create a playlist file (.pls) with the parts of the movie you want to see, you can pass that to PowerDVD 7.x. For example, your \\computer\movies\myMovie\HVDVD_TS\myMovie.pls playlist file would contain:
\\computer\movies\myMovie\HVDVD_TS\Feature_1.EVO
\\computer\movies\myMovie\HVDVD_TS\Feature_2.EVO
(if the parts of the movie you want to play are feature_1.evo and feature_2.evo).
then pass the "\\computer\movies\myMovie\HVDVD_TS\myMovie.PLS" to powerDVD and it will play feature_1.evo then feature_2.evo.
not perfect, but it works. I use it with my meedio front end. Import <name>.pls and pass it to powerDVD via PlayMee.

I use this as well... but I don't like it since I don't get HD DVD navigation :/

I found that passing ADV_OBJ/VPLST000.XPL works great. I haven't seen an HD-DVD that doesn't have an ADV_OBJ directory yet...

Antarctica Dreaming doesn't...
I'm struggling on how to play it using HD DVD by passing it a single file... works fine if I open the folder in PowerDVD, but I want to launch it from my HTPC frontend software and that requires a command line... :/

I solved this, both for BRs and for HD-DVDs missing an ADV_OBJ directory. Put your rips into a UDF ISO using ImgBurn. Mount the ISO under daemon tools and launch PowerDVD passing it the daemon tools drive letter. This should also get around the latest PowerDVD fun of not being able to play movies stored on your HDD.
