When encoding my dv footage to mpeg2 widescreen the last
few lines before the bottom black line are like blurred it's
hard to describe but looks like the bottom line as been repeated three times.
It does not seem to appear on the avi file also tried two
different encoders.
JVC Pal camcorder (in widescreen mode)
CCE encoder or Canopus 2
here is a link to a small chunk: If someone could take a look?

my bet is on the DV decoder being used.
try installing cedocida (free, good, fast) and see what happens.
it's possible it's trying to return top-field first and making the conversion by repeating the bottom line. though that's just a guess...

Tried something this morning, got my old hard drive
installed fresh windows and installed cce encoder
dragged over the same avi file and put it through cce.
but still getting the same results, so it must be the
camera right? ...but I am sure it was not there on my
first trials with the the camera to dvd.
Thanks for your help..and if you have any other ideas:confused:

hmm... i'm not sure you've exhausted the possibility i presented :)
i didn't say "cce encoder" but "cedocida". that is, an opensource DV decoder (something's got to decompress the DV file before it passes it on to the mpeg encoding program. depending on how it's done, things can be buggered up at this part of the chain).
but i'm clutching at straws, as i've not seen this happen before either (mostly worked with DV files in mov containers, which have their own problems...).

Yes I know Mug Funky but I have that much stuff on my
system I not sure which codec its using.
Will install that next, How do you know if your computer
is using that codec you want?

Ok tried cedocida on the clean windows and it's still the same.
I know it's only small thing but once you know it's there:mad:

hmm. that is a little strange.
maybe google your camera's model number and see if anyone else out there is having similar issues.
typically to diagnose a problem like this i'll use virtualdub to view - it doesn't do anything fancy - just gives you the pixels that the DV codec returns. in file > information it'll tell you what codec is being used to decode the DV (you can change it in the registry if you have multiple codecs - search for "vidc.dvsd" and you'll find your DV codec).
without knowing the camera model or the process it's been through it's hard to diagnose.

Ok thanks once again Mug Funky, The Camcorder is a JVC
GR-D366EK.Just one more thing, Some times it does not
look that bad but on scenes like this, it really shows up.
This is one avi captured in Sony Vegas(also tried winDV)
and now put back in to vegas so I can shorten clip right
down. If you play back the Avi, I can't seem to see the
fault but again when converted to meg2 looks really bad
on my daughters stripy top.
I know this is a big file but if someone could look at it
then try encoding it on there system to see if same results.
