I've been tring for over two weeks to rip King Kong (USA) to the hard drive. Every time I rip it and try to play it, PowerDVD 6.5 shows a black screen for 2 seconds, then shuts down. I can bring up the menu screen, but when I try to start the movie, it shuts PowerDVD down. King Kong plays fine off the disc with no problems in PowerDVD 6.5.

Here is the last log file:

My King Kong HD-DVD came with the Xbox360 drive.

I have two other discs: Dazed & Confused, and Full Metal Jacket. Both of these movies, I have backed up to the hard drive and they play fine off the hard drive.

I have tried many different versions of backupHDDVD both the GUI versions and command line versions - all give me the same results. I've also tried AnyDVD HD - same results, it will not playback.

Computer info:
Intel P4 hyperThread 2.8Ghz (Prescott)
ATI All In Wonder 9600 Video Card
2 Gigs Ram
ATI650 HDTV card
Windows XP Media Center 2005 (Rollup 2, up-to-date)

Any clue why FMJ and D&C backup with no problem, but King King will not??? I have checked and tripple checked to make sure the keys were correct. I'm really stumped on this:o

Also it takes more than 2 hours to rip KK or FMJ or D&C.

Any Advise Would Be Greatly Appreciated - Thanks In Advanced!

Use PowerDVD 7.2 and AnyDVD HD.
You can see the movie instantly without ripping.
I think the problem is that KK contains two video streams.

Thanks for the response Pelican. FMJ and D&C are both older movies and not digitally remastered from what I can SEE. KK has way better resolution than the other 2 mentioned, I wonder if this has something to do with my problem.

It's strange tho, I've not seen anyone mention they are having problems playing KK off the hard drive. Hrmmmm..

My 2 hour rip times must be due to no drivers installed for the HD DVD drive. XP normanally detects the drive no problem, but XP Media Center for some reason has problems with the driver.
