I recorded a video captured from a camcorder to a DVD-RW with a DVD-Recorder.
Because i didnt record it at home, someone told me that i couldnt view this DVD at home. I thought it was nonsense, but when i try to open the DVD, Windows Explorer says its a blank DVD and doesnt have any data on it... However, im sure it has data, and it was playable at the DVD-Recorder from which it originally was recorded.
Can someone please tell me how to copy these video files to my HDD?

Hi!
Chances are the files are in ".VRO" format. "TMPGEnc DVD Author" v.1.6 is capable of reading and processing such files. You can obtain a FULLY functional free 30 day trial version of this commercial program at:

Is it still possible, even if My computer cant see them.....
Ill try, cause i already have and use Pegasys tools (v1.6 DVD author & TMPGenc)
-edit-
It seems it isnt possible.. windows just cant see the files. I opened the DVD with Nero Info, and i saw that the DVD session wasnt closed. I used IMGTool to close the DVD session, but windows still says its a blank CD...
Can someone plz tell me how to fix this?

If "NERO Info" can recognize the 195Mb track, perhaps NERO Burning ROM will do the same. If so, you can then use NERO Burning ROM to create a new, NON_MULTISESSION, finalized DVD...

You could possibly use Nero to produce an image-file of this DVD-RW and then use Nero-Drive to mount this image. The reason could be that your DVD-recorder use the CPRM-copy protection scheme. If I load a DVD-RAM on which I have recorded something using my Panasonic DVD-RAM-standalone recorder it produces such a CPRM disc on this I can still see a DVD_RTAV directory but I cannot see the VR_MOVIE.VRO. Only if I mount an image file of this DVD-RAM this files in this directory becomes accessible.

Also perhaps you just forgot to finalize the dvd on the dvd recorder. I've made this mistake many times. Good luck!

I'd bet on CER22's solution! Once finalised, you will be able to play it and transfer it to your heart's concern. Also, ensure the blanks you are buying are compatible with your system.

@ CER22 & blutach: It isnt idd finalized.. i didnt forgot it, it just the way ill have to use this DVD-RW. Ill have to record one in a few days on it. It might be difficult to explain, but right now ill have to read the contents without finalizing.
I have 2 ISO tools i use often: UltraISO and ISOBuster.
UltraISO couldnt do anything with it, but ISOBuster could make a .tao file. I can open this file in MPUI (Mplayer for windows) and it will play fine. However, im still looking for a way to make a mpeg2 file of it. Is that possible without finalizing the disc?
PS: The Nero trick suggested also didnt work.. Nero still asks me to erase the disc before continuing...

Ill try it. I already used that tool once for a scratched DVD, and didnt liked it at all. I hope it will be different now..
-edit-
It says: disc empty...
What i dont get is: how can i play the file with MPUI (and VLC) and not make a mpeg2 file of it...?

and VLCIf you're able to play it with VLC, you should be able to use the VLC "Wizard" to save the file...

When i use the wizard, it just skips a few parts... Only the half of the video is here..

When i use the wizard, it just skips a few parts... Only the half of the video is here..But VLC will PLAY the ENTIRE video?

Yes, VLC will play the image file fine... full without any lagging or parts missing... thats weird, isnt it?
Maybe i can try to use Winhex. I know someone using this program often, and i read somewhere its worth a try

What you've described doesn't seem plausible. What settings did you select under the "Wizard"?

1) Transcode/save to file
2) Open the file
3) No transcoding
4) MPEG-TS
5) A location to save the file
U can say i used the default settings, except the container. The default was MOV (tried, didnt work also).

I have managed to get a working vob file. But there has to be a more simple way....
1) Use IsoBuster to mate a .toa file of the selected track.
U can play this file with MPUI (not with VLC). If u open this file in IsoBuster again, u can save it as .bin. This will work in VLC also. It works fine, but its not enough if u want a .vob file.
2) I opened the .toa file in WinHex. I never used this program before, but i know someone who has this program. I selected: Tools > Disc Tools > File Recovery By Type > Select the two mpeg file option > set max. file size and click ok. WinHex will find the .mpg file, but for some reason it will go on creating more than 100 copies... so i just killed the process..
3) This .mpg plays fine with all kinds of player, but the progress bar and total lenght display is wrong. Also out-of-sync on some players.
4) I demuxed and remuxed the file, and now i got a fully working .vob file which will work fine on any player.
Do i really need to go through these steps every time..?

On the "Choose Input" page, you didn't inadvertently have "Enable" checked under "Partial Extract", did you?

No i didnt.
And when VLC saves the vob file, i can see it skips parts...

As an experiment, try selecting "MPEG1" and 192Kbps .MP2 audio - and name the output file with an ".MPG" extension...

Audio is complete, but video isnt..

You mean the display is very choppy as it's saving, or very large portions (a minute or more) are being skipped, or pieces are missing from the created file? I've found this function is very buggy and only certain settings will work (others just create a file of a few bytes and do nothing), so if it's the latter two, try other options, especially container format. Choppy display is normal as it's playing as fast as possible and writing to the disk, so updating the display is a low-priority operation and some frames aren't going to make it onto the screen (but should be saved fine).
