This is an arcticle i came across in a magazine, and to me, a person not well familiar with those formats, it is really a detailed guide. and hope many people can share their knowledge here~~
As it is well know that video formats are classified into two applications, one for local use and the other for Internet. The formats for local use include AVI, nAVI, DV-AVI,MPEG suite, Dvix, MOV, etc. What the differences between these formats? I’m here to give some general information as a guide.
DivX is the brand name of the world's most popular video compression technology. At its core, DivX is a codec (short for compression/decompression) - a piece of software that compresses video from virtually any source down to a size that is transportable over the Internet without reducing the original video's visual quality.
