View Full Version : Can't read blank media, ImgBurn gives "Device not ready(Unknown 0x06,0xF4)"

I recently tried to use my burner and for some reason, it is not detecting any blank media. I've checked the device manager, and both the drive and IDE channel controller both report working normally. The drive didn't detect one of my regular DVD's, but it did play an audio cd. Imgburn gives the error message in the title when it tries to sense the blank. Could someone please explain what these error messages are? I'm positive it's in the burner itself, but I need to know what is going on.

I checked out the thread, but my problem appears to be more serious. As I stated earlier, I tested a commercial DVD with no results. I also tried a DVD-RW, one that I had previously been able to record on, again it wasn't detected. It also refused to detect a CD-R that worked before.

Hi!
Sounds like your drive may be dying - or, if your lucky, perhaps the lens is dirty.
You might want to try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on it. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US...

Well setarip, it looks like your first suggestion is correct. Imgburn couldn't even recognize my burner this time. It kept giving me a cyclic redunancy error and said no burner detected this time. I had to uninstall and reinstall the burner just to get it recognized. What was frustrating was the system control panel insisted that the drive was working normally. Also, I cleaned the lens twice, and still couldn't get the burner to detect the blank media. :angry:

All good things must come to an end!
However, on the upside, the pricing on burners has "dropped through the floor" in the past year or so ;>}
