Hi there,
my apologies if this is listed somewhere, however my frustration level with bad DVD media is at highest right now. :( :o and it keeps me from thinking (and searching straight)

I would like to hear some recommendations on what brand of DVD media I should buy. I must have written about 10 + DVDs (same .iso, about 4GB and DVD Decrypter) and the output movie skips and jumps at different spots for all of them. I am currently using HP DVDs (dvd+r 16x, 4.7 GB/120min) The DVDs are orange and come in spindle of 100. I must have paid about $40.00 or so.

I borrowed an Imitation DVD from a friend the output is perfect. :) I am interested in hearing your experiences with DVD media brands, perhaps it will enable me in choosing a better product.

Cheers!

It may have a lot to do with your burner and compatible media - for instance I have a NEC 3550A, and I get better burns (according to my Nero CD/DVD Speed) with Verbatim DVD-R than I do with the Taiyo Yuden equivalent. The quality is good for both, but I get a much lower error count in the Verbatim media (MCC) scans.

However, you will always be much better off selecting from the top tier of DVD media manufacturers. Check here for some ideas:

The DVDs are orange and come in spindle of 100.

The color is not important, often not even the brand name is important, since it usually doesn't tell you who actually manufactured the discs. What matters is the media code: it tells you who manufactered the discs.

With a program like DVDIdentifier (http://dvdidentifier.cdfreaks.com/) you can view media codes.

I guess I should mention that I am using an external SONY DVD/CD Rewritable Drive Model No. DRX-710UL

I actually bought SONY DVDs and they are not even recognized!!! Amazing stuff. Next try TDK's
