My parents just recently got the player mentioned above and I'm wondering if it's truly SVCD capable.

I managed to get chaptering work just fine using vcdeasy but using dvd2svcd I have major problems (basically the chapter forward button just won't work).. the numerical buttons work though. Dual audio also isn't quite working when using dvd2svcd (trying to determine now if it works using other progs) and svcd subs neither (haven't tested cvd yet).

So.. anybody has the mentioned player and could tell me about their experiences? VCDhelp just mentions SVCD compatible but that could mean many things. Thomson don't brand the player as SVCD compatible so you never know what it really can do.

I have this problem with my DVD player when i burn Svcd's with Dvd2svcd what i have to do is in my player if i hit back once.. Then i can start using my forward button. I don't know why the ones created with Dvd2svcd do this but they do.

I did quite a numer of tests now.. and the latest internal beta works until I press one of the navigational buttons upon which the problem starts again. As no DVD uses the navigational buttons unless for the menu I'm now thinking that the bug lies with vcdimager that incorrectly maps certain buttons.. the navigational buttons should only be active if a menu is being displayed... I submitted that the the vcdimager buglist.. no answer so far (but my mail provider is down for maintenance at the momen).

does anyone have the same player as I do? The neares CE superstore has boatloads of that model so I would assume that at least some people would have the same player and could tell me about their experiences.

Heya,

Doom, when you say navigational buttons i assume you mean the arrows?? Im pretty sure VCDImager makes no use of these buttons becuase they are not defined in the SVCD 'standard', they were however used in an obscure preSVCD standard in china that (I think) was used by I-Author. Now i could be completely full of sh*t here, but thats wat i know from my past experience. I will look at a D2S generated XML file to see if there are any irregularities.

well sorry if that wasnt what you were talking about, but my nick isn't exactly an exageration.

Ok, well nothing completely wrong with the xml file. a possibility could be that the first item after <pbc> is a selection, an old player of mine behaves VERY strangely with pbc like that (random play of tracks, no audio, no further pbc) i dont think its in the 'standard' but then again, there really is no svcd standard... That said its probably that players interpretation of the pbc, becuase there is no standard set in stone for it.

Anyway sorry I couldnt help out there, but i did notice a small bug. DVD2SVCD, I don't no where to post this, and I know your on holiday anyway, but here goes: The field for 'Movie Title' in the image creation tab should have the same ISO646-d characterset as 'CD Label', the VCDImager manual doesnt say this but it won't accept the <album-id> with invalid characters and gives an error about it...

@i_s: Ok, I didn't know that. I'll fix it.
