Have you any Verbatim DVD+R DL discs to test with? That seems to be the only recommended DL media on forums such as this one and cdfreaks.

Update to the 1.08 firmware and as kumi said, buy Verbatim DVD+R DL media, not Ritek.

So it's a media issue? Those Ritek's are cheap that why i gave them a try.

I have Verbatim and they always burn fine.

Maybe the firmware update can help, i'll give it a try.

Maybe the firmware update can help what? Make your crappy media magically work? There's a reason everyone says Ritek is crap. Firmware updates won't change that.

I have never had one Ritek DL work for me. DVD movie or just a data DVD, nothing.

I must have been lucky with 2 RITEK D01 spindles....15pc packed under Fuji's and 25 from Memorex...not one coaster with a fairly new LG's H10N burner. However it is excruciatingly painful to wait & burn at 2.4x, approx 47min whereas Verbatim's 2.4x can be done in 8x speed, about 17min....not buying anymore of these D01s.

Riteks have been used under PGCedit & IMGburn. Always followed the recommended layerbreak.

The recommended NEC firmware update MAY have a enhanced writing strategy for RITEKs...or not. Let us know? :)

Well believe it or not, but magic did happen.

After i updated the firmware of my NEC 4550 from 1.06 to 1.08 five DL's burned successfully so far.
Before i only got one out of five to burn successfully.

Not that i'm happy about the quality.
When testing the disc's with Nero CD/DVD tool, the ratings varry from 20 - 60.
All my Verbatim DL's were about 90+.

Sounds like NEC came up with a better write strategy specific to the Ritek media.

Perhaps, as a result, there will be more postings about successful burns using Ritek D/L DVD+Rs ;>}

A bit off topic but watch Verbatim as well: I bought a spindle of Ritek Verbatims DVD+R 16x "Pearl White" (reorder 43571) a while back.

I only noticed when I got a coaster. I decided to check the media code and it was Ritek.

I was like WTF? Verbatim almost always uses MCC media, so I bought the spindle expecting it to be MCC as usual.

Went back to the shop and exchanged it for proper MCC Verbatim's.

Boy was I pissed, I even wrote an email to Verbatim Europe to ask WTF they are doing going for crappy Ritek media (no reply of course).

Anyway lesson learned: do not get the Ritek Verbatim's I got and always check the media code just to be sure ;)

Hi!

Just a bit of additional information regarding Verbatim media. Most, if not all, of the Verbatim D/L DVD+Rs bear an MID of "MKM" which, like "MCC" is a Mitsubishi division or subsidiary...

Yeah I know MKM = Mitsubishi Kagaku Media, MCC = Mitsubishi Chemical Company

All I was saying: (unlike I thought) not all Verbatim DVD-R's from the + line are MCC or MKM apparently....

Let's keep an eye on them :)
