hi
i heard that you would be able to make a dual athlon xp system. but for what purpose are the mps then? I'm thinkin about buildin a dual system soon and Athlons mps are much more expensive than the xps so i would go for the xps if they would work too. Is there any board that can handle 2 xps? i heard of the tyan tiger but i'm not sure for what kind of amd cpus it is.

the athlon mp is the same as an athlon xp. only difference is that amd has checked the athlon mp for multiprocessor systems.
so dont be sad if a dual athlon xp dont work ;) ,but most times it should.

from what read the current idfferences in xp and mp are nothing, at some point in the future very near i expect the xp will not do smp, only mp will. currently ax and mp will do smp. but to be on the safe side get an older batch xp. tyan board is the only one i seen it accepts mp's and xp's not sure about that but i think it will take xp, ask tyan

the mp is just the xp with the L1 bridges not cut, you can make the XP L1 bridges work, but it might be dangerous, could do damage to your 150$+ chip
there is a site on the net that tells u how to patch the L1 on the XP, if i find it again i will post it
the mp is a little bit more in price but it is certified by amd for multi proc use....
here is the site

I'm using 2 XP's (1700+) in a Tyan Tiger MP mobo. Works great!
I was a bit worried it might not work, so I made a deal with my dealer to be able to take them back if they wouldn't work. They accepted my offer and I saved $100. :)
