View Full Version : Why did AC3 playback not work with the BSPlayer?

Hi there !

I did a AC3/SBC DivX AVI for a friend of mine in order to test his new soundcard with digital out.
I encoded the movie using GKnot and Nandub. Then I muxed the movie with the original AC3 stream
using Nandub.

The AVI was played back by using the latest release of BSPlayer.
We had both a new version of WinDVD installed (supports AC3 streams).
Suprisingly we both had no sound.
Hard= & Software used:
-WinDVD 2000 2.2
-BSPlayer 0.84
-Win 98SE with DX8.1 and DX Media installed

Soundcards:
-SB Live Value with Liveware 3.0
-Terratec SixPack with latest drivers

My questions:
1) Shouldn´t AC3 playback work with both setups ?
2) Shouldn´t an AC3 stream be decoded to "stereo" or "dolby surround" when selected in the
BS Player Intervideo AC3 setup under preferences ?

Of course DVD playback with AC3 worked fine (at least at my PC).

Any suggestions ?

TIA,
D$

old thread, but just in case, you are probably
missing the ac3 playback filter, contained in
the audio pack from doom9:

I own a Terratec Sixpack, but under win98SE I never got AC3-passthrough to work. This was confirmed by Terrattec since they use some AC3 routines that Win98 can't handle due to a bug windows itself. I even tried a bugfix 'wdm audio driver update' but didn't work.

With windows 2000 + sp2(required), ac3 passthrough works just fine. And you can use any player you want, because it can handle ac3 output with the 'default direct sound device'.
