most dvds turn out great but little house on the prairie tv series turns out blockier then ever it most discs have 4 50 min episodes on them i use dvd rb pro newest version and hc encoder slowest best quality takes around 3 hours i need some help on how to get these really good quality like most dvds done with dvd rb

What bitrates are you getting? The episodes themselves would be 3hrs and 30mins. That alone should come out alright -- are there extras on the disc as well?

You can try some noise reduction with .avs filters, a 'softer' low bitrate matrix might help also. I like Procoder at low bitrates better than CCE or HC. You can get a 30 day trial with the Edius demo at Canopus.com (don't get the Procoder 1.25 demo, it is not supported by EclPro/DVD-RB).
Still, 200 minutes of video is not going to look that great on a DVD-5. The fact that it's 30 year old TV video, probably of dubious quality to begin with, doesn't help. Your best bet might be just to split each disc into 2 episodes.

when i first stat encoding it says overall bitrate 3,052/2,442 kbs high low typical bitrates 2.445.2.442,2442 kbs if you need to me fully encode it i can just let me know they dont have any special features and menus is really small in size if they got special features i usely blank those out to help keep higher quality

You could try using the AVAMAT6 bitrate matrix for bitrates between 1800-3500, this is used by a few
I've done the MASH series and even on the source DVD you can see how grainy the originals are, so maybe try running an avisynth filter or two, to reduce the grain and smooth things out might give you a touch more bitrate, or use the bitrate editor to reduce the bitrate on the titles and use that on the epiosdes to squeeze more bitrate out of it
Try the DegrainMedian() filter, its a do all, and is quite good at removing non-specific grain in general without slowing encodingto an absolute crawl like some ofteh more complex filters and functions
Also, if you can, try 3-passes if using CCE on episode discs, I've done this before to help things along a touch
Or, if you are that concerned about the final quality, try DL media ?

what version cce you using?

What matrix have you been using? The standard matrix for CCE seems to not work as well, so maybe HC also needs this tweaked.
I tend to use Bach1 or Jawars 1CD for almost everything. Never had a blocky movie yet.
Good luck,
Mike

A while ago, a forum member created a matrix editor that would convert matrices.
Here is the forum link. I think it also has ther latest version of the editor.

I'ld recommend to give Rockas' RB's Matrix Editor (http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=24) a go. It comes with a set of matrices and has the ability to import .cqm as well.

First of all: I don't mean to offend you. You write "put it in my matrix folder in dvd rb". My question is: Did you actually choose to encode using that specific matrix?
manono
27th February 2007, 00:03
And are you sure the source DVD isn't blocky to begin with?
dtvhacker
27th February 2007, 17:54
yes i out the matrix in the folder in dvd rb then selected it and yes the source dvd is fine i dont no what it could be but if someone would take the time to help me out and get things goin and make them with no blocks i would glady pay

Under the AVS Expert Options select "Resize to Half-D1 / Apply to All" and check if the blocks disappear. You will end up with half resolution, though.
dtvhacker
28th February 2007, 08:12
can you be more specific on half resolution you mean smaller size picture?
jdobbs
28th February 2007, 12:06
The playback is the same size -- but the number of picture elements making up the picture is smaller.

i gotta say that helped out alot no more blocks you can see ocassional lines on certain edges but hardly noticable and hardly any difference to the naked eye i was setting 5 or 6 feet away from 42 inch dlp and it looked really good so if i get more blocky dvds ill resort to that as my last option although im sure there is another ways beside cutting down resolution i just gotta try to find out how thanks for the help guys i appreciate it
