MPEG2Repair has been giving me error messages everytime I try to start it now, and I can't use it. I've contacted the author about it, but in the meantime is there any other program that does the same thing?

Hi!

If you're running WinXP, you might want to try a "System restore" back to the last time things were working properly...

I might try this.

I've had more problems than solutions using this approach in the past.

I can't fathom why the registry or the OS would be causing these errors. MPEG2Repair isn't a program that installs itself.

I seem to be having the same problem and was wondering if you could share how you solved it.

Cheers.

Wow, this happened over a year ago. I honestly can't remember what happened.

If I can't remember what I did then it's probably something really small or very simple.

No error message as such, it just fails to start.

No error message as such, it just fails to start. That's one of the many quirks of Windows. I get the same on some software too, but it's always been on the installation and first usage. I haven't got this on anything which I've been continually using.

When I Googled a bit about this, I stumbled upon this (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=10710&iTestingId=20573). Although it talks about MPEG2Repair issues under Wine and the possible fixes for it, if you are desperate enough, give this a shot. Might just work. Unpacking packed executables can be such a pain sometimes, though.

I am running XP with Crossover ( a commercial wine app) on my MacBook. I had a look at the link but its a bit above my head. I'll just have to use mpeg2repair when I'm running XP natively.

Thanks for all the help though.

I started this thread over a year ago. I can't remember what I did.

Next time I solve something, I'll explain it.

If you download an app called FileMon from Sysinternals, you can find the offending .dll or support file which crashes the application.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896642.aspx

However, if you look at the Mpeg2Repair FAQ, the program requires 2 Visual C 7.1 support dlls.
