Ok, if this is in the wrong area...sorry.

I have backup all my HD DVD movies to HDDs, Is there a way to play them over a network using PowerDVD Ultra player. I tried and just get a can not open error. They all play fine from the PC that has them connected via USB external drives. I have even tried with internal HDDs on my server and get the same open error message when I tried to play them from another PC on the network.

Thanks

It may depend on how you access the networked files. Do you map the drive - i.e. type in the \\computer\share path, and then assign a drive letter, or do you just access it through 'my network places'?

The former is much more reliable than the latter. Once you actually mount a network drive, software should not be able to distinguish between a local and network drive (depending of course on read/write permissions and a lot of other stuff once you have a REAL network). This should be a stupid simple thing to get going :)

I use the "my network places" with share drives method, I will give the map a try. The probm is that I have 7 systems in the house and it was just easier to use the share drives method, But I will give the map a try.
Thanks

ThanksSeven systems!

Personally I locate all my media files including HDTV files on one "main server pc" which has 4No internal HDD's and several externally connected USB2 HDDs. The server is on 24/7 and all my other PC's and network media players connect to it. The set-up works great ;)

@Blue_MiSfit

Thanks, mapping did the trick.
