View Full Version : Auto Work and Output Directories?

Apparently there's no way for DVD-RB to automatically create the work and output directories for you? It'd be nice if you could specify a base directory in the options, and DVD-RB would create the work and output directories based on the DVD Title.

If a directory by the same name exists, it could add some suffix to keep it unique and to avoid overwriting existing files.

I found out the hard way that it doesn't do this currently. I first specified the same WORK directory for a few projects hoping to first run prepare on all of them to later run them in a batch. But my work files were being overwritten each time. So I took the time to manually create separate work directories for each of the projects. This solved that problem, but I was still using the same Output directory. So after hours of batch processing all of my projects, I only had a single set of files in the output directory.

I'm sure most would agree that the addition of this feature is a near must for doing batch processing.

I would love to see an addition like this! Maybe take the label of the DVD when possible and a directory name when it's a source from hard disk.

What happens for those who want the "WORK" and "OUTPUT" on different drives? Why do you want to retain the "WORK" folder. Also, the DVD label is possible. Just put the source in it's own folder with the folder name being the DVD title.

I am not sure why this would be needed since its easy enough to set up the directories .

I'm not quite sure what you're saying. Those you want "WORK" and "OUTPUT" on different drives could still benefit by having DVD-RB auto-create subdirectories under those "WORK" and "OUTPUT" directories with the names of the DVD title.

And I do already put the DVD source files in a folder by the DVD Title when I rip it. I'm talking about DVD-RB auto-creating sub-directories by the DVD title name under the WORK and OUTPUT directories. It would at least be a nice option to have, doesn't have to be a required feature.

In my opinion, this feature isn't necessary. Each project saves it's own path to your specification, and since you plan on processing these projects via batch anyway you would still have to specify a path to every rebuilder project, so how is that so different from what you do now?
