Hi Boss!

Well, you stated SD616 with no following letter (B,F,T...).
Is your drive in a Dell system? If it is you can upgrade your firmware to RPC-1 (region free).

If your drive is a SD616 B there is RPC-1 firmware too.

If the drive is a SD616 F or T there is not any RPC-1 aveible (yet), but maybe the counter will reset if you upgrade firmware.

All these firmwares can be found here:
http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/

Anyway, as DriveInfo states, the Manufacturer can still change it 4 times more. Go talk to your dealer...

Good Luck!

Hi, my drive hasn't got any letters it's just SD 616 BS02 (maybe it's B because of that BS02?) I saw that there's a patch for SD616B BS02 and for SD616 but the first one is 616B not SD616,and 2nd is only for Dell computers but I would realy like to know who's or what's Dell?
Any ideas?!

Hi again!

I thought that the DELL OEM-drives was the only one that doesnīt use those letters. Strange. Anyway, if the drive was bought seperatly, and not within, or as an upgrade to, a DELL computer system, then itīs NOT a DELL drive...

I checked Samsungs web-sight, but there where no info about the letters. And only a upgrade for F drives.

I was thinking thow...
If you look at those firmwares. For the B drive they are called BS02, as in yours. For the F drives they are called FS02, FS03 and so on. So, because your firmware is called BS02, your drive must be a B-drive.

Maybe you should try that patched BS02 firmware (RPC-1). I mean as you already have a BS02 firmware.

Let us know!
Regards!

So you think it's safe to patch it with 616B BS02?

I THINK itīs safe. But I canīt be 100% sure...
If you are worried, then donīt. But the drive is locked in the wrong region code anyway, right! So, what is there to lose?

The alternative is of course to go to your dealer and see if they can reset it (four times left).

Well, Iīm out of ideas!

Maybe you should contact your dealer. The drive can still be reseted foure times, remember.
I think itīs up to them since they didnīt tell you aboute the drive locking up in the fifth change.

Be well!

I successfully patched my Dell OEM'd Samsung SD-616. Windows identifies it as a SD-616B, but DVD Genie and Dell's documentations identifies it as a normal SD-616. It found it, I booted into WinXP Home, it said "Restart or Die." so I restarted, then the firmware version, instead of bp03, became Toff.

It's unlocked.:) Now I have to deal with the WinXP ( ) region code.:(
