I have 2 computers hooked up on a Gigabyte Network. One is running Windows Media Center, the other XP64

I would like both computers to be able to access each others DVD-ROM's

However normal sharing is not enough. i would like them to look and act like local DVD-Roms. Is this possible, if so what software should I use, and is there an OpenSource or Freeware solution.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Sharing them as normal drives is the first step. But if your plan is to watch movies, PowerDVD or WinDVD can play movies off mapped drives. Also, VideoLAN. Set up a video cast on the first PC and then stream it over the LAN to the second PC.

Yuck... player dependent solutions.

Power DVD is ok, I use classic multimedia player. Problem I have is that it doesn't disable my screen saver during playback of videos. Power DVD doesn't re-enable it sometimes. Streaming sounds really cool, extremely complex, and not compatable with windows media center.

The real problem is that I have this movie that I made a backup of, and it only plays on some DVD's players (not my media center). Ahh well, I will have to look for a way to automatically control the screen saver with windows media player classic.
