View Full Version : IMGBurn Layerbreak quality options

I've done a 1:1 rip of a DVD-9 ("Flags of Our Fathers, R1, W/S), using DVD Decrypter in "File" mode, and then fed it to IMGBurn in "Build" mode.

I'm hard-pressed to understand why the ONLY option for layerbreak placement is one that is indicated to be "Good".

Wouldn't using the same layerbreak placement as the original DVD be an "Excellent" placement?

You only get excellent if it's the first cell in a pgc or at the start of a file.

It's a scoring system for people with absolutely no idea what they're doing - in some vein attempt at making the selection easier. It's not the be all and end all.

Thanks for clarifying ;>}

hehe... after all, the "best" layer break isn't always the one pressed on the original. i've heard of layer breaks being put in the middle of pans, with music playing :)

And to mitigate the effects Mug Funky observed, don't forget about seamless layer break, which is available on many players these days.

@blutach

Pease explain how a seamless layer break would: mitigate the effects Mug Funky observed

A seamless layer break will reduce or completely remove the pause when the laser switches between layers on a dual layer disc.

If you notice a pause on an original disc, such as in a pan with music playing, you can change the layer break to seamless with PGCEdit or ImgBurn and say goodbye to the slight pause.

Thanks for clarifying that the point regarding "seamless layer break" has nothing to do with this thread...

It has much to do, since you can freely select any cell for the layer break, regardless of its quality, if you enable also the seamless option, as you will not notify the LB anyway.

I must be missing something here. If, in fact:you can freely select any cell for the layer break, regardless of its quality, if you enable also the seamless optionWhy wouldn't IMGBurn just automatically set itself for "seamless layerbreak" and automatically select a position for that layerbreak, rather than offering choices as to where to set the layerbreak?

Everything is explained there (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=819669#post819669).

@r0lZ

Sorry, but as always, I'm seeking a simple answer, in layman's terms:

If, in fact:
you can freely select any cell for the layer break, regardless of its quality, if you enable also the seamless option Why wouldn't IMGBurn just automatically set itself for "seamless layerbreak" and automatically select a position for that layerbreak, rather than offering choices as to where to set the layerbreak?

Because seemless is out of spec and could fail on some players.

Is that simple enough for you?

With ImgBurn you just can't go wrong...

Come to think of an old ABBA song...
"The winner takes it all
The loser standing small"...
