don't buy from Aldi unless you don't want to change nothing. I got one 3 years ago (P4, 2ghz, 512 MB RAM, 500€) and since the mainboard chrashed it was a pain in the *** to find a new one which fit into this PC. Everything is OEM and needs "special" versions (BIOS for example). Their support is a complete mess --> barely version updates on their site...

Therefore it is a PC for beginners, which seems to be nice in price - but don't expect good support.....

I bought a Medion from PC World in December 2002.... It's been on 24/7 virtually every day since then and has proved most reliable.

The only component that's failed has been the PSU. But this only occurred after a brown-out followed by a power-cut...

Looks good for £400, probably best as a HTPC though.

ok, maybe I was just out of luck. Anyway I won't by anything which looks like a PC from Aldi. ;)

And as for the HTPC quality: Medion PCs are often quite noisy.

Hi,

Yep, had same kind of problems. Now all my equipments are on power surge/lightning ramps AND after a power cut I switch off the ramp, wait for the power to be back and stabilized (voltmeter or just a lamp) before turning back on :)

Dont buy it... its a Pentium D.. if you're in the market for a new PC and dont need all that extra (IMHO) junk then go for Core2Duo or an X2 - way speedier and consume less energy for the performance they offer.

I have an Aldi computer from 1998 and it serves me very well (only thing that ever broke was the CD-ROM) but as others have stated they're mostly good for beginners.

Ever since then I build my own machines - may not be cheaper in the end, BUT the finished machines are 100% what I want. No special motherboards or other odd components (TV-card anyone?), no unneeded components (super killer graphics adapter in an office PC?) etc. :)
And you can pretty much recycle all components into new computers.. try doing that with those special versions ;)
