View Full Version : Login with XP at startup

OK, it might sound trivial, but it's been bugging me for a while. At bootup, I'd appreciate the login screen automatically selecting, if you like, the only user name available, so I wouldn't have to click on the user name to enter my password. I ran Network Connection Wizard and that little perk disappeared, so it's becoming a little tedious now to have to click on the user name and then type the password. Does anybody know how to re-enable this?

Here is a way to eliminate the login altogether.
Get rid of welcome screen with autologon
1. click on "Start" - then click on "Run" - and type
"control userpasswords2"
2. click OK
3. On the Users tab, clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box and click "Apply".
4. A dialog will appear that asks you what user name and password should be used to logon automatically, just click "OK".
Then go to Control Panel / User Accounts, and click “Change the way users log on or off”, and untick both “Use the Welcome Screen” and “Use Fast User Switching”

That's not what I'm after. I like the logon screen, cause it makes my computer more secure IMO. ;)

Pretty sure that turning fast user switching off is the only way to do that. (You can also bring up the old-style login box from the main screen by hitting ctrl-alt-del twice.)
