View Full Version : Using DVDR(W) drive and VOB files.....HELP!!

Okay, this may be stupid, i don't know.

I have been ripping DVDs to my hard drive, no problem. I can watch them in all of their splendor and glory, so on and so forth.

BUT for X-mas I got a Philips DVDRW drive and a DVD player (Toshiba can't remember model at the moment).

Now, I assume it is silly for me to think that I can simply copy the "video_ts" folder from my hard drive to a DVDR and expect it to work. I assume that there is a lead in track on a DVD or something like that to prevent such a simple procedure to work.

Is this right?

Also, I know that the "non-professional" model DVDR(W) drives have different schematics altogether which prevents piracy due to CSS technology. (With the flags, etc.)

BUT the real question is: since I have the VOB files riped to my hard drive and they are already in a DVD format (since they came directly from the DVD itself) AND since I already have a DVD burner, how should I transfer the VOB files to a DVDR so that it can be read by my DVD player?

I guess what I am tryint to find out is whether I can omit a decoding/encoding step since I have a DVDRW drive and I will be playing the disc on a DVD player?

ANY help is appreciated.

Also, if anyone knows of a guide specifically for ripping to DVDR's, that would be an immense help.

Thanks!

I'm sure there's a way around it (but I don't know what it is), but from what I hear, if you burn something on that DVDR, it will only be able to be read on that DVDR. No other DVD players will be able to read it. Or more likely, they will refuse to read it.

But I'm sure someone somewhere has figured out how to burn to a DVDR so it can be read on any other DVD player. Or they have written a program to do it or something.

But really, I have no idea, and it's probably not as simple as just copying everything from DVD->hard drive->DVDR. But you might try it anyways, if you've got some spare rewritable DVDs lying around.

I'm pretty sure it is that easy. Unfortunitely for you phillips uses DVD+RW technology and is not compatible with home dvd players and playstation 2's. I can't tell you for sure about the burning part. I have a panasonic lf-d311 and DeCSS is not compatible with it so I need to find another program that is. Any ideas?

Im working on a new 'mode' for DVD Decrypter that might just be the answer to your question!

Once I've tested it to see if it actually works, I'll let you know :)
